So far I have been very happy with this unit. I am not much of an audiophile so I won't review the sound quality other than to say that it meets my needs. It plays my music in my car and I'm satisfied with the sound.

I find the ipod controls to be logical and easy. You get basic control of the ipod, being able to scroll through artists, songs, albums, playlists, podcasts and genres using the volume knob the same way you would the click wheel. I haven't had any difficulty with it. There are other units that have better interaction with the ipod but they cost twice as much. Besides - I would hope most people wouldn't be dinking around that much with their stereo while they are driving. The charging feature is excellent - since I purchased this stereo I have never had my ipod die on me.

One slightly annoying thing regarding the browsing controls - when you are using the ipod directly you can back up to the screen for the album, then back to the artist and so forth, basically the reverse of the route you took to get to whatever you are listening to. This is helpful is you just want to see the track listing or switch to another album by the same artist - whatever. With the stereo, you always start from scratch at the home screen so at times it can be a touch tedious.

So far I have been happy with radio reception - mostly listening to AM.

A few more small complaints - sometimes the stereo will turn on automatically when I plug in the ipod and just start playing. Not a big deal though - I just try and make a point of making sure the volume is turned down low when I turn it off. I wish it had come with a carrying case for the faceplate - but these can be obtained for ten dollars or less.

I purchased this stereo for a little used car I bought for the snow, that still had a tape player. Along with a wiring harness, I got this stereo installed quickly and easily. This thing isn't only for Ipods or MP3 players, it plays anything USB, including flash drives. It is also a simple, clean interface that is pretty user friendly and easy to figure out, just by fiddling with the buttons for a few minutes. If you do use your ipod, however, it fully interfaces with your music player AND apps. It plays Pandora from the face plate including displaying the channel you're on along with the artist/song info. This was certainly a bargain at this price. I would suggest this for anyone who would like a very modern upgrade for their older car at a very good price. I guess I would even suggest it for someone looking to put an upgraded system in their car because it DOES have RCA cables on the back as well.

It is a SUCH as shame that Sony discontinued their DSX series or "Tune Tray" integrated models in general.

If you can find a DSX head unit (S100, S200 or S300, etc) and have an ipod that you don't bring with you everywhere, BUT IT!

The control scheme is great and easy. Pre-programmed EQ settings are great, I leave mine on the "XPLOD" setting 99% of the time and it brings out a lot of dynamics to the music I listen to.

I've had this head unit since 2012 and only until this year did it start giving me problem with the connectivity of the front plate, it seems there is some sort of occasional connectivity issue between the faceplate and the body, which can lead to a condition where it is nearly impossible to navigate around your media device and get to a track you want.

My guess is that with the death of the dedicated media player and the aux cable reigning supreme (Audiophiles, I cry with you) companies don't see the need to produce units that have features like this.

I don't care for CD players anymore, haven't for a while... I don't need a DVD screen or any of that... my last two stereos were off-brand units that both had USB and SD card slots... the first, a VR3 I bought on Amazon a couple years ago, was great but went with that car when I sold it... the next was an inexpensive Chinese unit bought on eBay that was only a radio and media player, no CD... it was the right idea, just poor execution, and it failed on me only a few months in... So I decided a tried-and-true name brand player was the answer, trouble was that not many were makin' 'em without a CD player... luckily this Sony popped up on Amazon, the price was right, the reviews were good, so the choice was easy... I AM SO GLAD THAT I GOT THIS!!! the sound quality is great, the features are many and useful, and it looks great... the amp power is about standard for most decks these days, 50x4 or 52x4, whatever, so it's plenty for typical in-door speakers like mine... there are several different EQ settings, as well as custom EQ to dial it in to your tastes... it also has a Q-factor adjustment, which changes the stereo field for even further tailoring the sound... it has both a high-pass and low-pass filter built in, which is a major plus, as well as a subwoofer level control... it has outputs for two amps... this thing has you completely covered for sound, it's great, amazing at this price point especially... it's got some cool features, a lot of which take a little learnin' curve, but the manual is clear and concise and makes it pretty simple... of course it can cycle from folder to folder and also has a random/shuffle function, those are almost a necessity with mp3 players...Read more ›
