I did an exhaustive test comparing this mic to a cheap lav mic and the internal mic's with both my a6000 and a6300. Depending on what you're recording, there are times that the internal mic's on both these cameras sound significantly better than this external mic.
On my FS7, the internal mic at the back of the camcorder is better than this mic attached to the MiS hotshot on the handle.
Sony didn't have to deliver "pro" quality with this mic, but it probably the wort product I've ever purchased from Sony, and I couldn't even count how many things I've bought from Sony over the last 3 decades.
All the available microphones that work on the Multi interface shoe are vastly overpriced and under quality. But the lack of a 3.5mm jack gives the user no choice. Sony has been a pioneer in audio technology, but in the case of the cameras with a MIS, they are a leader in ripping off the customer.
I thought long and hard about this product and wish I would have gotten a cheaper mic or one of the Rode knockoffs. Why waste $80 when you could buy something for almost half price and probably get better results?
