I read a LOT of reviews prior to ordering the Sony MBS100. I felt like I was going out on a limb to get it. They said that the volume was not good. Sounded like the phone speaker, etc. I got it. Charged, it last a LONG time. Sound was way better than I expected. In fact, disregard anyone who says otherwise. The sound is totally fine. I use it with the Motorola Droid and the volume is controled by the phones "media volume". That is actually easier than going to the device. My only concern, but has never come close to happening, is that I might bump it and it will go rolling off a table or shelf and crash on the floor. Another thing that is weird. There are two buttons on the bottom, one the power the other the bluetooth conectivity. I've never pressed the bluetooth button and I connect automatically after the power button is pressed. So that is nice, one less step to connect.

I purchased two of these little speakers with high expectations. I'm always on the lookout for a convenient way to leverage bluetooth capabilities in my laptop computer and my iPhone and this little Sony Ericsson Bluetooth Speaker does just that. It's quite awesome in my opinion.

The MBS-100 can be operated off of an included AC adapter or from it's internal battery. Expect a maximum of 5 hours of use on battery power (likely less than that.... more like 3-4 hours in my experience) and don't expect room filling sound. It's more for personal space sound, like at your desk or in a small room. As long as your expectations are in line with reality, you're bound to love this little speaker as I do.

Pairing it with your bluetooth device is a breeze. I demonstrate how easy it is to do with an iPhone in my video. Although there is no volume control directly on the speaker, I really consider this a non-issue. It is more likely that the bluetooth device sending a signal to the speaker is going to be more available to you than the speaker and that in fact is how you control the volume, from the music source but not on the speaker itself.

Depending on the bluetooth device, you may find some devices are able to provide a louder maximum sound than others, but in all cases in my experience the sound level has been adequate for my "personal space" listening.

It's an attractively designed, reasonably priced bluetooth speaker and I have a lot of fun with it. People react very positively when I whip out my tiny round speaker and produce decent, although not incredibly loud, sound from it.

I withhold 5 stars simply because I'd like to see better battery life but other than that I have no complaints with it at all and in fact I love this little guy.

I wanted a way to listen to all the music on my Juke phone without using earphones so I was looking for speakers that had bluetooth, sounded good, and small enough to not take too much space on my bookshelf. This speaker meets all of those criteria plus it is portable too! It is as small as a softball but it puts out a "big" sound (not over powering but just right to my ears). It sounds great in a car even if you place it in your cup holder (it sounds better if you can get it to stay on a higher platform). Pairing it with my Juke phone was easy. You can also use it with a music player that does not have bluetooth capability by attaching the earphone connection from your player to it although you'll have to buy the connection wiring/cable to do so.

The only drawbacks to it are that it's not really stereo (it is only one speaker), it does not have a remote control and it does not have a volume control (your music device's volume control must be used although with my Juke phone I can't get the volume control to work so I just set the volume first to full blast on the Juke phone before setting the bluetooth on with this speaker).

I still give it a 4 star for its bluetooth capability, good sound, and it's so different looking from anything else that other people who hear music from it and see it keep asking "where did you get that???". Supposedly it was featured in one of MTV's Real World season so if you watch that show, you may have seen it before. If you need a more detailed review of this speaker, do a search on google. Some of the reviews do an in depth analysis on its capabilities.

UPDATE 03/09/2010 -
Just updated my cell phone to a Nokia Twist 7705. Unfortunately, this speaker doesn't work with it. It paired successfully but when I tried to connect, it wouldn't make the connection. If someone manages to make it work with the Nokia Twist, please tell me how you did it through the comment link.

I am a big fan of Sony Ericsson-designed products or was as the partnership no longer exist. This speaker is a discontinued product however I sought it out as I have purchased portable speakers from generic, unknown companies only to have them fail in little time. I find this speakers appeals to my sense of design strongly. Upon trying it out with my samsung galaxy s2 and nexus 7, I can say it is about 25%-30% louder than either external speaker those devices come with. I tested both bluetooth connection and 3.5mm inline audio cable and found both straightforward to activate. Sony has taken a very minimal approach with manual controls which I am fine with and the simplicity elegant, and refreshing but others will wish for more controls like a volume rocker. There are two buttons, power switch and bluetooth activation switch, both next to each other out of sight on the center bottom of the speaker. You manage the status and functions of the speaker through pressing or holding either button by itself or in combination and one indicator led light will flash in certain ways, indicating what the status of the speaker is (music mode, bluetooth pairing mode, charging mode, etc.) I found remember the controls quick an intuitive after a day of use. The sound is much fuller sounding than the devices I own are capable of. I could see sony putting a louder or more powerful speaker in this housing but for what I use it for, it is loud enough. I listen to music on my full size home sound system and headphones and use this speaker when on the go or at home listening to audio books/magazine and mostly podcast. I think anyone hoping to fill a room with sound is expecting way too much from this product st this price.
