Design, construction, materials used

Camera autofocus and speed could be a little better
I pre-ordered this phone from unlocked mobiles in the UK for $722 with a $20 shipping fee after exchange rates. I ordered the G8141 single sim model instead, with the Sim card slot being the only difference between the two models. With the pre-order I also received a $100 Sony Bluetooth speaker (SRS-XB20) for free which made the deal that much better. The only downside from the international order was receiving a phone charger intended for UK users that does not fit into US power outlets, but the working fingerprint sensor is worth finding another usb adapter laying around to charge the phone.
I have always preferred the classy and elegant look and edges of the Sony phones over the typical rounded metallic bands of iPhones, Samsungs, HTCs and LGs. I have tried all of these other phone brands yet keep coming back to Sony devices. The performance and quality of their phone's stand the test of time more than any other phone.
The phone looks awesome in the deepsea black color, with it turning slightly green in direct light. The metal top and bottom feel very premium along with the nylon sides which are indistinguishable from the glass front and back, contrary to complaints from other critics. Complaints about the bezels are ridiculous in my opinion. The bezels provide an excellent surface to hold the phone from when viewing movies and keep finger smudges off the screen. My previous phone was a Samsung S7 edge and I couldn't stand the unintentional touches that the edges would pick up (along with other annoyances that shouldn't appear in a $800 phone).
The screen of the Sony does not disappoint at all. I have only been able to view 2160 resolution videos on YouTube, however the 4k TV shows on Amazon prime look great, when you finally do find them. I wish I at least had the option of manually changing the resolution, but I understand Sony forcing better battery life upon it's users. The colors are breathtakingly accurate , and the smoothness and sharpness of the display are quite brilliant. The dual front facing stereo speakers sound clear and make a perfect companion to the display. The media experience is unmatched by any other phone.
The preloaded apps work extremely well together and I appreciate the fluidity of the phone's ecosystem. The ease of use surpasses all other phones I have owned and should benefit unsavvy tech users as well as experienced owners. The PlayStation remote play included with the phone is amazing for anybody who owns the PS4.
The camera takes lifelike pictures and works great under most circumstances. The predictive autofocus and autofocus in general under the automatic settings occasionally produce slightly blurry photos in indoor conditions from what I have seen so far in my testing. Other than that everything functions better than expected, and better than other leading phones.
I chose this phone over other flagships because of the screen, quality, fast near stock Android operating system, peformance, and great camera. Although this phone is not perfect, (and neither is any other phone in existence by my standards) it comes very close to my desired ideal mobile experience. I am glad I chose this phone over another Samsung because while Samsung phones look amazing on paper, their true quality and performance show after a couple months of usage, and I prefer to have a phone I can be confident in lasting until my next upgrade. My final rating would be a 4.5/5 but decided to round up instead of down due to how minor my grievances are with the phone and to combat reviews of "da bezels are too darn big!"
I would like to answer an extremely common question. It is widely known that the US model does not support the use of the fingerprint scanner, so I know many people are wondering whether the scanner will work on this international model while in the US. The answer is yes. I live in the US and the fingerprint sensor is indeed supported on this model. A pleasing discovery, considering the difference in price between this model and the US one.
SLOW MOTION CAMERA
It seems to me that a huge selling point of this phone is the slow motion camera. While it is a very impressive feature, there are a few things to note. First off, the phone can Can Not record continuously @ 960fps. You can, while taking a standard frame video, hit a button to record at that rate for about 0.15 seconds. When slowed down to 1/40th speed, this 0.15 seconds ends up being about 6 seconds of super slow motion. While it may sound extremely difficult to capture a moment with only a 0.15 second time frame, I believe you will be surprised with just how speedy your reactions are. I'd say I only miss the moment about 1 out of every 10 times. Another thing to note about the slow motion camera is that you need light, a lot of light. And by that I mean the sun. Unless you have studio lights, the sun is the only light that will be bright enough to have acceptable video quality while using the Super Slow Motion Function. If you want to record slow motion continuously, you can only do this at up to 120fps. This can only be slowed down to 1/5th speed, but the lighting quality is vastly superior.
It is worth addressing the fact that if you want a standard aspect ratio, you can only take photos at 17MP, rather than the advertised 19MP. I had the Sony Xperia Z5 premium as well, and I do believe that one took photos in a standard aspect ratio at 20MP. However, as we hopefully all know by now, Megapixels do not equal quality. Because of this difference though, there isn't quite the same level of detail in these photos when zoomed in as there was on the Z5 Premium. The photos look sharper apart from that. My brother, who has a Samsung Galaxy S8+, and I compared taking photos in our backyard. The level of detail and sharpness is about equivalent, but there is no denying that the XZ Premium has greater depth of color and breathtaking vibrancy. I will post a photo that I took with the XZ Premium from my backyard in this review. But please note that unless you have a 4K HDR display, you will not be able to see the extent of the photo's quality. I am definitely impressed by the camera on this phone.
Speaking of 4K HDR displays, it is somewhat of a shock that the Sony Xperia XZ Premium is the first and only smartphone (as of the current date, 07/25/2017) to possess a 4K HDR display. It is also only the second smartphone ever to possess a 4K display, the first being the Z5 Premium. This is actually rather sad on the part of other manufacturers, considering the Z5 Premium with it's 4K display was released over a year and a half ago. Some may argue with me and say that many other phones have 4K displays. This is false. Other phones have Quad HD displays. The resolution of Quad HD is typically 2960x1440, whereas 4K resolution on a standard aspect ratio is 3840x2160. And speaking of aspect ratios, the XZ premium is the only flagship model Android smartphone of 2017 to maintain a standard aspect ratio of 16:9. This is convenient when it comes to compatibility with some 3rd party software, as well as ease of using the photos outside of the phone itself. To sum it up, the display looks fantastically sharp, and the HDR offers a broad and impressive spectrum of color.
The XZ Premium has been put together with some quality, top of the line hardware. With the brand new Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 Octa-Core processor and 4GB of RAM, you can rest assured that you won't be experiencing any lag anytime soon. However, I would've liked to see 6GB of RAM, as the superior of the S8s two variants as well as the Asus Zenfone 3 Deluxe possess. The S8 Plus also has the option of the Exynos 8895 processor, which adds a little extra kick to the processing speed. However, the XZ Premium does certainly hold it's own against the S8 in benchmark tests. It is also nice that the XZ Premium has a water/dust resistant rating of IP65/68, meaning it can withstand dust in addition to up to 1 meter of submersion for up to 30 minutes. It can also resist light sprays, such as rain or low pressure mist sprays. The Gorilla Glass 5 on the front and back offers a solid screen and rear resistant to most light drops. However, I would still recommend a case and screen protector.
The XZ Premium is equipped with a significant sized battery, 3230mAh. Between the 4K display and the octa-core processor, battery usage is a difficult thing to deal with. However, I believe Sony did a rather impressive job with this model in optimizing the battery usage. The battery saving options are also diverse and extremely helpful. I use my phone pretty heavily, but this still usually manages to make it through the day. But if you want to give it a quick charge before leaving the house again, you're on luck. This phone charges extremely fast. Probably about 1% every 20-45 seconds. So you can get a quick charge before you leave, even if the battery life wouldn't be quite enough for you otherwise.
I'm just gonna be honest, this isn't the prettiest phone out there. It's boxy design and significantly sized bezels just can't match up to the gorgeous modern look of some of the other flagships out there. However, the glass rear adds some flare, and the shape helps maintain a standard aspect ratio, as well as supports high quality stereo speakers. So I'd say, keeping practicality in mind, it's really not a bad looking phone.
I'd say overall, I am very impressed with this phone. Its quality is solid, and its packed with impressive features and quick performance. The camera is impressive, the display is impressive, the hardware is impressive, the price is not ridiculous. Definitely a good generation for Sony, and I would definitely recommend this to a friend.

Sure a bit pricey but you get what you pay for. You need quality on phones. Way better quality than Samsung.
Past 4 Sony phones I had had 0 problems.
I also had 2 Samsung phones which gave me a headache(battery problem and tech problem. No root or alterations)
You pay cheap for Samsung, you get cheap quality tech. NEVER AGAIN.
I AM GOING TO STICK WITH SONY FOR MY PHONE. NO DOUBTS.
