Since writing the above, I will add the following minor areas for improving these excellent headphones.
1) The low input impedance and mini-phono jack plug make these headphones perfect for use with small portable mp3 players. The problem is the long, heavy, coiled cord, which is a real inconvenience. In order to replace it with a shorter, lighter cord for portable use, the left earphone must be disassembled, and a very delicate soldering job needs to be done. If you're not careful and skilled with a soldering iron, you will fry the left audio assembly. I wish Sony made all headphones with detachable & replaceable cords.
2) Any headphone costing over $100 dollars should not have vinyl earpads. My Sennheiser headphones have fabric covered earpads, which is much less sweaty and are the most comfortable headphones I own. Both products are true circum-aural headphones - with around-the-ear pads, which comfortably and completely enclose the entire ear. Although if your knickname is "Dumbo" and your ears are naturally floppy, better try them on first to check.
Finally, getting back to the audio quality, which is what it's all about, and Sony really shines in that department. Compared head-to-head with all other headphones I own, including the Sennheisers (which cost more), the Sony headphones have sound reproduction which is simply the best. So I give them 5 stars despite the minor flaws above.
Edit: The headphones are good but they just broke on me. No sound coming out of the right ear piece. It's been just a little over two years. Customer support is not fun. In the end, they won't repair them but they offered me a replacement pair for $85. :(
