Like most people I am on a budget. I try to buy the best product for the most affordable price. I bought the Skullcandy Ink'd 2 Earbud (Black/Red) a few years back in an effort to get quality for a price. I was disappointed. At first they seemed to be pretty good, but as I listened more and more, I found the treble was incredibly saturated. If you listen to rock, the cymbal work can come through sounding like shattering glass and distorted. The bass also seemed impressive at first, but over prolonged use I noticed it was just a false and under powered bass sound.
I finally decided to grab some earbuds that would give me what I wanted, a balanced sound stage with crisp mids, clear highs and punchy bass. If that's what you're looking for, then these earbuds are the way to go. For 30 bucks, they are double the price of most 'okay' earbuds, but quadruple the quality.
The bass is dynamic, able to deliver big sound without drowning everything else out on more electronic driven songs(2NE1 I Am The Best intro for example) while delivering punchy bass on rock and metal. The mid and high range comes through clearly without distortion and doesn't hurt your ears at higher volume.
The design is cool, though the way they go into your ears is a bit weird at first. The microphone for phone calls comes through clearly as well.
If you can only afford 10 dollar earphones, by all means, buy what you can. However, if you can afford a bit of a higher price, buy these, you will not regret it.
I haven't used them for a phone call yet, but I like the mic being in the earpiece itself rather than down on the cable. I'm hoping this will work better than some that have the mic on the cable, which doesn't pick up sounds well.
They are a bit more difficult to get into my ears than just popping them in, but due to that they fit well and block a lot of external sound, and they don't pop out of your ears if you move around.
Phenomenal sound quality per usual from Sony; no muddy bass and every instrument is heard. I found these to be INCREDIBLY uncomfortable after about 30 minutes of gaming, but that could simply be that I'm not used to the in-ear style.
Great for those that can use in-ear style earbuds, stay away if you can't or don't know though!
These worked beautifully for three weeks then every time I plugged them into my phone, music would stop. I called my mobile phone carrier and we tested with some $6 motorola phones that seemed to work fine, but these just would not. The phone was acting erratically every time I plugged in these Sony phones. So I reluctantly clicked "return" and got ready to pack these babies up. Then I tried them in my laptop and they were perfect. So I got out my jeweler's loupe and could swear I saw some fuzz at the bottom. I got a q-tip, cut off the cotton part, shaped it a little bit to come to a point, and wrapped some scotch tape sticky side out as best I could on the white q-tip stick. I swallowed hard and stuck that baby into the headphone jack, twisted it a little and took it out. Nothing. I tried it again, twisting it more, and voila, out came a chunk of fuzz stuck to the tape.
These things work beautifully again. So I cancelled my return (I think).
My other issue: If you have sensitive skin, the silicone (?) earbud sealers will make your ears itch. If airline earplugs make your ears itch, these will too. Sigh. The price of good sound. I'm keeping them!
