    It's a great editing software
    It's a great editing software, gives you all that a youtuber needs but the thing CRASHES ALL THE TIME!! I have a steller PC and it crashes at least 5 times when editing. You have to literally save every 20 seconds! And it could crash while saving! And you loose everything! If they fix this problem I'll give them 4 stars

    I have been very pleased with this software. I am a novice movie maker (I do demo videos of guitar gear on YouTube) and have only been doing it for about a year or so. I started out using Windows Movie Maker, which was okay until I needed to film something with multiple camera angles, and then it was time to upgrade. I had a friend that kept telling me to check out Sony Vegas, but it was expensive and did all kinds of stuff that I was sure I was not going to need anytime soon, and it was so large that I don't think my laptop could run it efficiently anyway. Then I discovered the Movie Studio series, which are the smaller versions of Vegas, but they were still packed with plenty of features for me to learn to use. I started with the free 30-day trial version first, and I instantly fell in love. It is very intuitive and easy for a novice like me to learn to use. I've gradually gotten faster at editing my videos. The first one took me about 10 hours for a 20-minute YouTube video, now I can get them done in about 2-4 hours, depending on how extensive they might be with camera angles, effects, audio tracks, etc. Movie Studio Platinum 13 does everything that I need it to, plus a whole lot more. It's been a great platform for me to learn on, but still gives me plenty of room to grow, and quality of my YouTube videos has improved significantly. I bought the download version as soon as my free trial ran out, and I'm very glad that I did. Here is the last video that I did so that you can see for yourself...

    This software is unusable. It works very well and is a great editing software when it works, but unfortunately, it is extremely buggy. I installed the product without an issue, but find that about once every 30 minutes the software crashes - this has caused me to have to save my progress constantly out of fear of losing my work. To make things worse, when trying to render a video, it crashes about half the time. In fact, I've been unable to render any video that takes longer than one hour to render due to the repeated crashing. I love the product when it works, but it's just SO BUGGY and crashes SO OFTEN that it's now unusable. I'll be trying something else out instead and doing my best to get a refund for this junk. I've posted my system specs below so you can compare my PC to yours in case you consider buying SMS13 Platinum (my advice: don't buy it, seriously - I've never in my life had issues with software like this and I've been doing home multimedia editing for years).

    Had to knock a star off because the download of the product didn't work properly. Had to go to the Sony site, download a trial version, then provide the keys provided by this purchase.

    I've used a number of different tools, including PowerDirector, CorelVideo Studio and I like Sony Movie Studio 13 Platinum by far.

    The Sony software, in comparison, has a rather plain looking interface. The interface might be a little difficult to unravel for the beginner who has never used a video editing product. PowerDirector is probably a simpler tool.

    However, if you have video editing experience, or are willing to shoulder a little bit of a learning curve, you'll be rewarded with a workflow that helps you to make semi-professional looking videos very quickly.

    Very simple but effective title graphics are right there. Fading titles, fading music, sound, transitions are very fast and easy to apply.

    The one area where Movie Studio is a bit of a let down is slower rendering. It took me more than one hour to render a 30 minute AVCHD video to AVCHD result. With PowerDirector, I could probably render the same video in just over 30 minutes. So rendering is SLOOW.

    The Platinum edition allows you to move between the Simple interface and the Advanced interface. I generally do my edits in the Simple interface, then swap over to the Advanced interface only when I need to use advanced features.

    Having two levels of interface is nice. The Simple Interface will probably suffice for beginner to intermediate editors. It wont take long before you'll be knocking on the door of the Advanced interface.

    There are plenty of videos out on Youtube, etc. to help you learn how to use the product. One of the great things about this tool is that it has very advanced features, knocking on the door of high priced professional video editing products, for basically short money.

    If your interest is to stay at fairly basic level of editing, and want fast rendering, take a look at PowerDirector. If you want a tool that helps you to create movies very quickly with a great workflow, but has a little more up front learning curve, then this is the product for you. In no time you'll be knocking out semi-pro looking films in half the time it takes to use other products. Enjoy!
