The Codebreaker is a fine tool for most applications. You insert the disc before you start the game, choose your game from the list provided and highlight the cheats you desire. If your game is not listed, hop online and find the necessary codes to enter manually. There is also a day one option I have not explored but involved downloading the cheats the day the game comes out so you don't have to type them in. Once you have your cheats, take out codebreaker and put in the game. It'll start with the cheats ready to go.
The cheats work fine for most games but on occasion they cause the game to crash, fail or lock due to programming errors and non intentional outcomes of the cheats. If your character falls into a lava pit and SHOULD have died instantly, she won't, but you're still stuck in a pit you cannot escape.
Also, each time you restart the game you have to switch discs back to codebreaker and re-select the cheats.
Other than the occasional freeze up of the game it works fine and makes many games more enjoyable. I recommend this product to anyone who likes to win fast, or a guy like me who likes playing games but doesn't have 8 hours a night to master it.

Codebreaker comes loaded with lots of codes and game saves out of the box, and more available for download through your ps2 internet connection. Another useful feature is the Day 1 codes available on their website. You can download them to a USB pen drive and load them into your ps2 provided you aren't using a PS2 with the model# 75001 or higher(the newest slim model). Those PS2s don't recognize the pen drive so you'll be entering all the codes by hand, which can make for a long afternoon.
From codebreaker's site:
"If you have the latest PS2 Slim Model (SCPH-75001 or higher): Sony has made some key modifications to this revision of the PS2. It seems that the changes they have made to the USB hardware have rendered the CodeBreaker's USB drivers inoperable. This is likely due to use of a newer and probably cheaper chipset. The change does not seem to effect software that uses Sony's USB drivers, but Pelican's home-brew drivers do not operate (Pelican cannot use Sony's drivers for legal reasons). A future version of the CodeBreaker will likely fix this problem. For now, there is no fix for this on your unit."

my first ever codebreaker lol
i've used gameshark
i've used action replay
i've actually even used this codebreaker before (but i didn't know it at the time)
the gameshark tends to not be able to handle re-warped codes
the action replay tends to give me a block of corrupted data if i do something wrong on it
the only thing i have bad to say about the codebreaker i bought here is that it's a version 1 (you get what you buy though so im not complaining)
the only thing this codebreaker can't do is hack into some of the late games of the ps2's cycle and that's fine with me because most of the games i will use this on are kinda midway or early games

I got codebreaker on yesterday and after using it, it's no wonder people choose this over AR Max and Gameshark 2 combined.
What makes Codebreaker so special is unlike Action Replay Max, which you have to type in new games and the codes associated with them if you don't have an internet connection and have a usb device formatted to FAT16 to transfer saves, and Gameshark 2, which rarely boots up half the time you use it, Codebreaker has what's called the Day 1 feature, which allows you to download Codebreaker code files and add them to the already immense code list via any usb device you have on hand.
The added bonus is you can transfer saves using ANY, and I mean any type of USB device no matter what the format.
Even though Pelican has discontinued this product, It's still a must have for anyone who still has a PS2 regardless of age. Take it from me, the proud new owner of a Codebreaker 8.1 as of yesterday, I KNOW!!!!

I've used all the cheat devices from Gameshark to ARMAX and really like the Codebreaker. Easy to use, lots of codes, easy to update. My only complaint is the minimal support given. The support site provided by the manufacturer states it doesn't work for Pelican and is very unfriendly to new users. Codes that don't work are not removed promptly and very few people are creating the codes. You can't even request a code without risking being banned from the forums. Even with the problems, I have to say I like the Codebreaker the best as the others don't support their devices particularly well either.

If you are looking for a code breaker this is the way to go.. i bought a gameshark and it would not even load, and after reading some reviews. i found out alot of people have the same issue,, then i read the glowing reviews for pelican codebreakers.. and gave one a try .. i gor the version 6. would reccomend a newer version for some games.. and codes can be found at codetwink.com.. and they are not that hard to enter. easy navigation .. the only issue is you have to add the enable code at the top of the page of the codes you wanna use.. the only code breaker you will ever need.. great product

Bought it to help out with a level that we were stuck on

I expected a higher version because the listing said it would be, and I get a much older version that didn't work properly because it wouldn't write to my PS2's memory card. This version would not accept day1 files, and even if I was able to write in the games and codes manually, they wouldn't save. I kept on having to write the same codes in over and over again with no success. I paid over $70 for a defective unit. Not worth it at all.
