It didn't work at all on my A7Riii. When I pressed any bottom on the remote, the only thing happening is my camera screen flash once time and then nothing else. That's weird since I saw some review said that it works perfectly on their Sony A7Riii. Returning!

Update: For anyone who has trouble to use this remote with their Sony's camera.
The attached instruction manual is useless since it is not mentioned what you have to do before using this remote with your own camera. You have to manually open the "Remote Control" in Setting menu otherwise the remote would not be able to control your camera (this function is off by Default). For A7Riii users, press "Menu" >>> choose "Setup3" >>> Remote Ctrl: ON (page 3/7). If it's still unable to control your camera after turning that function ON, you will need to do an extra step that removing the camera battery and then put it back again.

Follow me on my YouTube channel ( OndaWire ) where I do full video reviews on everything tech. This remote is great. I love the fact that I now don’t have to keep running back and forth to the camera. Lol The only thing I couldn’t figure out how to work was the print feature.
I WILL SAY, this does what I need it to do, so I'm more than happy. Plus for the price, it's a steal. The BIG pro is the distance. I was several feet away and this remote still worked like a charm. It also worked from side and underneath angles, which I loved. I would definitely recommend it for sure!

Works on Sony A7 III - Front or Back recording!

This little remote will receive signals on the Sony A7 III whether pointing at the back or front of the camera. This is important for when you're using a gimbal or tripod, and are trying to eliminate camera vibration, or if you're shooting yourself from a tripod. It has decent range, anywhere from 6-10 feet depending on conditions, and responds quickly. Zoom function isn't that great (too fast in most cases to be useful), but I think that's more a function of the camera interface itself than a shortcoming of the remote. Very helpful if you're a lone photographer/videographer, and a godsend if you have more than one camera to work from at a time.

Works with Sony A7II - even from BEHIND the camera. That's awesome. Many other remotes require that you stand in front of it and point the remote directly at the IR sensor. Lame. But not so with this Sony remote.

What a great little tool! "Great" because it does all the things it should do well: take photos remotely, start video (remember, you must put your CAMERA in video mode first), it lets you pull up Menu, and call up that good ol' histogram on your Sony camera all with the press of a button.
I LOVE that this remote automatically goes into power-saving mode. This means you won't drain your batteries when you're not using it. The cheaper, simpler competitor remote here on Amazon doesn't go into auto power saving and that results in constantly dead batteries. Not so with this one.

And "little" because it's really quite small. Some might consider it too tiny but Sony thought of putting a little cutout on the back of it that allows you to feed a little sling through it so you can put it on your keychain or attach a key charm to it, or even attach it to one of your camera bag's zippers.

Very happy with this remote. It lets you do shake-free exposures, even long ("bulb") exposures, timed selfies, and it works from just about any angle, whether behind or in front of your Sony. I think it's worth every penny.

Great !! It's a must have for my Sony A6000. The only thing I wish was better would be the range at which my camera senses the remote. The range in front of the camera is fine, but I am referring to using the remote if you are behind your camera. I understand remotes are mainly used while standing in front of the camera, but for long exposure shots I prefer to use the remote to prevent any shake from my finger clicking the shutter, but because it won't sense the remote from behind the camera, I have to try to aim it over the camera to hit the sensor while also trying to not have my hand or remote get in frame.

Still worth 5 stars in my book thanks to full control over the camera with just the remote!

Just got this delivered yesterday. The power button does not shut the unit off. More frustrating than that is the fact that I can't get the battery cover off so I won't be able to put in a new battery when the one that came with the unit dies, which should be soon since the unit stays on continuously due to the inoperable power button. See the domino effect here? Sony (and Amazon) should be ashamed to market such inferiorly designed junk. I paid $30 bucks for this thing and feel I got ripped. If I could rate it zero stars, I would.

I was originally on the fence about purchasing this as I thought i was a bit pricey for $30. But once I got it, I found it to be worth it. It's designed specifically for Sony Cameras and it works well with my A6300, A6500 and A7R3. The range on this is great and I can use it behind the camera with no problem.

I'm able to use all the buttons and they are very functional. The buttons for the video portion works well if you have the camera hooked up to your tv or monitor.

You can use your SonyPlayMemories app for alot of the functionality but this thing helps when you need to be perfectly still and don't want to touch the shutter, With every show you take by pressing the shutter button on the camera the camera moves, if even slightly.. This remote will remedy that.

Great accessory to have.

I use this for several uses, for vlogging, real estate photography, night photography, etc.
It's great how I don't need to attach an external device onto my camera like my older remote, BUT, that had WAY more range than this. This remote must be pointing directly at the camera, not from behind (potentially may get it at the side). It works up to about... 20ft or so? But it doesn't always work. It would have been better if I could use it at like 100ft+ as I love taking photos from a great distance. This still isn't a lot, but its probably asking too much

I've been using this remote control on a Sony a6500 for the last few weeks. It's a bit pricey but worth it in my opinion. Using this I can snap a still photo with no delay or with a 2 second delay without having to touch the camera. I usually shoot in Manual Mode but have Memory 1 set up to record 4k video and Memory 2 will record HFR video when the record button is pressed.

I find this extremely handy to have 3 different cameras effectively set up in one body and to be able to use all of them without having to physically touch the camera. It does involve a few extra steps to recall and enter the memory position, but it's all done from the remote control.

When using a prime lens, turning on Clear Image Zoom does allow digital telephoto functions using the + and - keys. Since this is a digital zoom it does jump in steps from normal to telephoto settings which need to be edited in the final clip.

When using the 16-50mm Power Zoom kit lens (or my favorite 18-105mm G Power Zoom), the + and - keys give me just a smooth of a zooming action as can be achieved using the rocker switch on the side of the lens.

The arrow buttons can also be used to shift the focus point without having to touch the camera screen which is a great feature. I haven't explored all of the focus options yet as my preference is to either use Flexible Spot or Expand Flexible Shot for most of my shots.

I don't have the appropriate cable yet to hook the camera up to my TV, but from what I've been able to discern from the manual and other videos, the remote can also be used to control some functions on the playback device.

I just sold my old NEX-7 but the tests that I did on that camera were a bit more limiting. Primarily shutter release functions worked, but the video recording did not for me.

All of the newer cameras from the a6000 on up should work fine with this remote control.

Using this remote with Sony a6300. Very compact and easy to conceal when necessary. Also very easy to lose! I have attached a small lanyard with via an adhesive pad. Gives full remote control over most camera functions, including, obviously, shutter release, auto focus, power zoom (on compatible lenses), and menu functions. Long (bulb) exposures are possible with two presses of the shutter button: one to open, one to close. IR sensor is on the front of this camera, so the remote must be aimed towards it; not inconvenient, but not necessarily immediately intuitive. Very satisfied with this great accessory!
