Mica-Reinforced Cellular Woofer
The 10" mica-reinforced cellular woofer delivers the full range of crisp, clear lows for room-shaking bass that's never muddy. Mica reinforcement of the woofer cone material represents a favorable mix of strength and low weight. Traditional driver materials must increase mass to provide greater amounts of rigidity. However, these traditional materials tend to be slow and inaccurate, resulting in muddy, distorted bass. Mica reinforcement of the cone material equals extremely high strength and low mass. This allows for high power handling and ideal response.
High-Resolution Sound Reproduction
The 28-200Hz frequency response in the SA-W2500 subwoofer offers a wider range of tones available than from comparable woofers. So you hear every rumble, every shift, and every beat with crystal, high-resolution bass--and all from a compact, easy-to-place woofer. No need for bulky, room-filling speaker cabinets to add depth to your favorite music and movie soundtracks.

I purchased it to add some lower frequency response to the bedroom TV. It does a fine job. Flat screen TV's have non-existent bass response, but the mids and highs on my late model Vizio aren't too bad. You can pay more for a soundbar that sounds hardly any better than the TV speakers, or pay twice to three times as much for a soundbar with a very weak subwoofer. Here's a tip. You don't need a soundbar to use this with your TV! If you have L&R RCA audio output on your TV, you will need an inexpensive Y adapter and a single sub cable to hook this up. I t sounds far better than a budget soundbar and the ease of use is unsurpassed. It has an auto-on feature that works well (not always the case with subs) and the small light in the front goes from red while in standby to green when a signal is sensed. The only remote I need is the TV remote. Turn on the TV, adjust the volume and enjoy the full range sound. My wife likes things simple and this is as simple as it gets.
For my use it is a 5 star product, but I knocked off a star as this is a budget model, with inherent compromises, but if you are considering a lower priced soundbar for a boost in sound, this is by far the better and simpler solution.
It is rated down to 28hz, but with no -db details. I tested the frequency response and it is good down to about 35hz. You will have to take some time to "dial in" the crossover and volume adjustments and let it break-in for 20-30 hours. Do that and you will be pleased.
The two other systems we have set up in the house feature the Pioneer VSX 1021-K and higher end Polk speakers with the BIC F12 Subwoofer. After listening to these systems for many months, I was extremely pleased. I wasn't expecting much from these less expensive Sony speakers at all. Let me say, in a word. WRONG!!! This combination of speakers and A/V receiver create really good sound. Not quite as crisp as my other systems, but darn close. I was blown away when I cranked everything up. The Sony's handle the power that the Pioneer throws at them with no problem at all. The Sub (W2500) looks kinda cheezee with the plastic back end, but I'll be darned if this little sucker doesn't put out some really nice sound. One thing I must say that really blew my mind is this. When I first fired everything up, I was getting great sound and plenty of bass. I felt like , hey this was a really great deal. Then, I realized I had failed to power up the sub. Once I did that, it was the icing on the cake.
In short if you're looking for some really nice sounding speakers for your A/V set up and don't want to drop thousands just on the speakers, these Sony's are your ticket. They do lack a whee bit in the mid range area, but i haven't fiddled with or adjusted anything yet. I was so excited at how good they sounded right outta the box that I wanted to write a review and encourage anyone sitting on the fence to jump in, the water's fine in the Sony pool. I'd buy these again with zero hesitation. These are truly an outstanding value and will serve most people well. If your an audiophile perfectionist, these aren't for you. It you're a person who likes great sounding speakers that can be cranked up and still deliver crisp, clear, and clean sound, and you don't wanna spend a lot, trust me on this, go for it.
Amazon did a great job with delivery, as always.
