Get ready for BIG sound
Highly-efficient S-Master HX digital amplifiers producing 90 Watts, in concert with 5 speakers deliver immersive sound. While two Super Tweeters generate an enveloping soundstage, two Magnetic Fluid Speaker Mid-Range drivers fill-in the melodies, and a Subwoofer and dual passive radiators round out the mix with rich and powerful low end.
Discover High-Resolution audio
What CD offered in sound quality and portability, it lacked in capacity. In contrast, MP3s enabled music transfer and sharing, but required compression—leading to significant sound quality loss. Via lossless, digital capture of analog sounds, it’s now possible to reproduce performances exactly as intended-the power of a live performance or the presence of a studio session.
Dual Band Wi-Fi support
Embedded Wi-Fi audio streaming capability lets you either enjoy your favorite iTunes content via your Wi-Fi network or access the music files on your DLNA compatible PC or Home Media Server. * Built-in Ethernet port also available for a more stable network connection.
Listen to your favorites, anytime
With Google Cast built-in you can instantly cast your favorite music, radio, or podcasts to your speaker using your mobile device. Choose from millions of songs from popular music services like Pandora and Google Play Music. Just tap the cast button from your favorite mobile music apps and control the speakers right from your phone.
High-fidelity in any room
SongPAL App (for iOS and Android), you can dynamically configure your listening across multiple speakers (sold separately), choose the right song for the moment, and control playback across the speakers.
Sony-unique technologies for enhanced audio
DSEE HX delivers natural, near high-resolution sound quality by up-scaling your favorite audio tracks. ClearAudio+ leverages Sony’s best DSP technology for incredibly vibrant and powerful sound. With LDAC, high-quality wireless Bluetooth audio streaming is a reality, thanks to enhanced (up to 3x) data transmission capability
Stream your music wirelessly
Easily pair, control, and stream your Bluetooth audio experience with your compatible music devices, digital music player, smartphone, tablet, or computer. With NFC (Near Field Communication) technology easily activate or deactivate compatible devices by aligning and nearly touching the NFC logos.
USB for connecting and charging
Two USB ports are available. One USB A port, allows for streaming audio from and charging your compatible portable audio sources, including: digital music players, smartphones, or tablets. The second is a USB B port for complete digital audio transmission from a PC*. *Recommend to use the software “HD Audio Player” for bit-perfect audio playback.
Handy remote control
The SongPAL App* (available free at Google Play and the App Store) lets you not only tap into the music stored on your smartphone, tablet, or PC, but also discover and connect to various online music services while also controlling the speaker and various speaker settings from across the room.*Subject to app terms and conditions.

Top Customer Reviews
Intro/Highlights: In general, this is a really well thought-out product! There are things about this speaker that make it feel both futuristic and familiar at the same time. The most impressive thing about this speaker is the connectivity options available and how configurable it is, despite the usability hurdles with the Songpal app, but I'll get into that.
I evaluated the product based on its Industrial Design, its Setup and User Experience, its Sound and its Connectivity.
Industrial Design: The unassuming phsyical presence, the seeming lack of physical buttons, the subtle antenna and the single cord entering the body make this speaker feel like it is truly an object of the future. The rubber feet of the speaker keep it grounded well on my shelf. The remote control is a perfect companion that I forgot I needed. While a physical remote control may seem like a useless thing this day in age with our smartphones, the one supplied with this unit is actually really really useful, especially when I use this speaker with Spotify Connect. Way more accessible than having to open my phone and adjust the volume every time.
Setup and User Experience: The Songpal app (the app that is used to configure and setup the speaker) is, in plain terms, really ugly and a usability nightmare. The visual design and general design of the app is purely horrid. Thankfully though, the set up experience side-stepped what could have been a bad experience and made it fairly straightforward. The app gets you to pair with your speaker via Bluetooth first and then shares wifi info from your phone to the speaker. It didn't take long before my speaker was connected to the internet and magically connected to Spotify Connect and accessible via Airplay from my iPhone and Mac.
More about the Songpal app though. Seriously, this is some bad mobile app design right here. Maybe some engineer wanted to be clever, but they could have made it so much simpler. Just use native components and they'd be set. Instead they designed this CRAZY interface that is just super confusing and every tap is a guess at what will happen next.
That being said, the app does work! Settings work. Equalizer works. All communication with the speaker works. It is just ugly as sin and horrible to use, that's all.
Sound: Aside from the app, this is where I could be most critical about this speaker. While I appreciate the general tonal quality of the speaker, by default it just doesn't sound natural. Even with the equalizer set to "Flat" the high-mids come through overpoweringly above all other tones. If I could be critical of just one thing, it is the default sound this speaker produces. Even more, there is a ClearAudio+ setting, which is just brutal as it returns the speaker to the "Flat" EQ, and then takes the already overpowering high-mids and exaggerates them so much that it takes over the entire listening experience.
BUT, that being said, the Songpal app does have an equalizer that you can play with along with various equalizer presets. You can play with a few to see what matches your preference. I highly recommend that you be patient in playing with the equalizer getting the right tone suited to your room, your music and your ears. For me, the R&B/Hip Hop setting seemed to be the right ticket to tone down the high-mids and amplify some of the other tones I prefer to hear, even though I don't listen to much R&B/Hip Hop. Anyway, to each their own.
After configuring the sound using the EQ, it's actually pretty good! Not A+, but... B+? Expecting these to sound something like the the Vanatoo Transparent One speakers would not be fair, but I would consider the sound of those optimal and would use them as comparison.
Obviously this is not a true hi-fi stereo system, and in general the speaker sounds entirely different when listening at different angles. For optimal listening I have the speaker on a shelf right in front of me at about 6' high where I work at my standing desk, and it sounds pretty great (standing directly in front of it)! Channel separation is decent and okay for my taste.
As I move to the side of it, or if I'm laying down on my bed, the tonal quality changes entirely. Mids and highs tone down a bit and bass starts to overpower. Expected for most speakers.
Any distance greater than a metre or so away from the speaker and the channel separation pretty much disappears. Also expected for this kind of speaker system, yet I wonder if there could be ways to prevent this through the design of future products.
Connectivity: In general, the connectivity options, and general connection reliability are stellar. Airplay works nearly flawlessly. It consistently connects to my wifi, automatically. I could have a line in, or USB connection. Even ethernet!
While I hate to admit it, this speaker does have connectivity issues with Spotify Connect from time to time, forcing me to unplug it, and plug it back in if I want it show up in Spotify Connect. I don't know if this is the fault of the speaker or the Spotify Connect service, or maybe even my wifi. As I mentioned the speaker very reliably works over Airplay, and this is true even when it doesn't show up in Spotify Connect. To be fair, the wifi in my apartment is not the most stable, and I think the speaker may have issues recovering after the apartment wifi bugs out. But so does my computer, so...
Summary: So, 0.5 star docked for horrible app design, fairly poor default sound quality and possible connectivity issues with Spotify Connect. 4.5 stars for connectivity options, industrial design (it's Sony!), remote control, and configurability.
That rounds up to 5 stars.
Now if you like listening to Natalie Merchant, Eric Clapton, The Eagles, classical music, etc, then this should definitely be on your short list of wireless speakers to seriously consider before purchasing.
Thus far I have only used it with the aux in cable, and have charged my phone with the USB port in the far left back of the speaker. I can charge my phone via USB, and listen to music using the aux in cable at the same time. Which is pretty cool when you stop to think about it.
Pianos and acoustic guitars in specific sound quite nice on the X-88, and the bass is very well integrated with the rest of the music, and not the slightest bit boomy.
I hope that this review will be helpful for those of you who are also looking for a premium wireless speaker.
*Hook-up was a breeze
*If you decide to use the "SONGPAL" app, it is important that you follow the directions for this just as explained...don't assume anything.
*Functions for the "SONGPAL" app provides easy to use sound settings to suit your taste.
*Removable front grill (using the provided magnetic pen) creates a little more bass. This is easy to do and is suggested by SONY.
*Overall sound quality is quite good considering the actual size of the unit. Will definitely impress!
*Glossy ebony finish gives this until a "classy" look
So, there you have it. Do I regret the purchase? My pocketbook says yes, but my ears say no!
I also compared this to the SRSX99, Sony's top dog speaker in this class, its almost the same but has two more tweeters on top that are fed 2 watts each so they don't help much, the other 5 speakers have a bit more power but at a much higher price. $ for $ the 90 watt SRSX88 is the best speaker in this class I've found & it connects perfectly to all of my other Sony & Apple devices, connects to the Apple TV, iPhone etc.
I experienced zero buyers remorse with this item.
Bass leaves something to be desired, but this should be expected for a speaker this size.
Songpal app has been recently updated and it's nice to have some level of EQ control for the sound.
Overall sound quality is good (especially with the configurable EQ to get the audio profile you want) but not great.
