The Sony SRSX9 WiFi speaker system is outstanding. The fact that Sony took three years to develop this system clearly shows the level of commitment it has to hi-def audio. Everything about this speaker -- from the excellent build quality to the huge number of supported audio codecs -- is top notch. Connectivity is easy; everything from Apple Airplay to Bluetooth and direct connection with a cable is provided. I favor Airplay over any of the other options. Airplay is simple to set up and it is solid and dependable. I have also attached a thumb drive with hi-def FLAC files to the USB port. These FLAC files are 24-bit, 192MHz -- and they sound absolutely amazing on this speaker. This system is capable of putting out more than 150 watts across several Class D amplifiers; it does not distort at high listening levels. Spotify sounds really good on this speaker, especially if you configure Spotify for "extreme" audio quality. The only "weak link" in the SRSX9 speaker system is the app that Sony provides for iOS and Android devices. While SongPal is functional and gets the job done, it is a bit confusing and clumsy at times. Overall, the Sony SRSX9 is an absolute delight. I have compared it to other speaker systems in this category and, for the price, it can't be beat. Highly recommended!
I researched speakers and decided to take a risk and spend significantly more on this speaker because it connects through Wi-Fi. The set up was simple enough. I downloaded the app to do the installation but it would not connect to my network or through bluetooth. The app would spend two minutes trying to connect and every time ended saying the connection failed. I got very frustrated so I called Sony and the tech support man was very helpful. He walked me through specific steps of trying to re-set my router and even connecting my phone directly to the speaker with a cable but it still didn't work. He said it would need to be replaced but my experience made me return the speaker because I don't want to spend over $500.00 for a speaker that has technical problems.
FYI... I have Google Fiber and a Note 3 so my technology was plenty advanced to handle the speaker.
This is a beautiful speaker with a fantastic range - all in a tiny little box. I love overseas and travel a a lot so portability had to be a consideration. The speaker is not too large to be able to pop into a suitcase. For home cinema with a projector the speaker is amazing. Airplay is sometimes a bit fiddly but Bluetooth and phone connections work perfectly with no complaints on the set up or the ease of use. Overall, great sound in a compact speaker that will equal much larger more expensive models.
The sound is very good. The design is simple and unobtrusive. I am very disappointed with the volume. I listen to classical music, mostly, and I like to put the volume level up to sound like a concert but the Sony SRSX9 only goes loud enough for a pleasant background music level.
Clear and accurate sound, except for bass. I noticed that with this speaker, you have to play it relatively loud for the bass to catch up with the mids and highs. This system definitely has enough power to fill a small room with clean sound. Unfortunately, I was looking for a speaker that would provide bass at low volume listening, similar to that of the Bose Soundlink Mini. NOTE: To people who say that they can't hear out of the top speakers. It's not supposed to be 'heard' in the regular sense of hearing sound. It plays frequencies much higher than any human can hear, and only there to add 'ambience' and give the listener all the frequencies that had been recorded. This is a 5 star system to me, only if it had stronger bass at 10-15% listening volume. Sony, you're definitely making a comeback. Please listen to your consumers, and 1) Hire top app developers 2) Hire top app UI designers and 3) Don't be shy with upping the bass. You guys are close to a big hit, slight improvements, and great marketing will get you there. Your hardware is top notch.
Purchased this speaker here last month and I'm very happy with it. Looks great, sounds great and easy to use. I paired four different wireless devices, 3 Android and 1 Ipad with no issues. I also connected a Cd player with aux in. The SongPal app works well on the Android, I couldn't find it for the IPad which is a fairly old unit however it still plays on the speaker paired with Bluetooth.
