Experience the dramatic bass and tingling highs of the high-performance SS-F6000 floor-standing speakers. Crafted to bring massive audio power to your home, these speakers make a statement. You and your guests will appreciate their impeccable high resolution sound reproduction and the deep, hard-hitting bass.
Built for High Resolution Audio
The SS-F6000 features amazingly detailed sound reproduction, with a upper frequency response level 50kHz--nearly twice that of conventional floorstanding speakers--to deliver high resolution audio from sources such as Super Audio CDs (SACD) and FLAC digital audio files.
This high-performance configuration features a 6.5" Mica-reinforced woofer and a 1" Nano Fine balanced dome tweeter, balanced by a 3.25" enhanced H.O.P. cone mid driver and a 6.5" enhanced H.O.P. cone mid woofer. 180W of maximum input power makes the SS-F6000 ideal for high-performance stereo applications, as well as functioning as powerful front channels for your surround sound home theater system.
Improved H.O.P. Cone Design
The 6.5" bass drivers and 3.25" midrange drivers in these speakers feature improved H.O.P. cones to bring you overall sound improvement. H.O.P. stands for Sony's exclusive Highly Oriented Polyolefine, which is a speaker cone material of extraordinary strength. It's up to 30 times more rigid, per unit weight, than polypropylene. This material delivers sound with lower distortion and extraordinary transient response when compared to more traditional materials.
Nano Fine Tweeters
Of course the woofers and midrange drivers aren't the only parts of these speakers to get special attention. The tweeters were built with their own Nano Fine technology to improve sound delivery. Conventional material suffers from high internal loss and low resistance to both heat and humidity. The Nano-Fine material gives you much lower internal loss, and high resistance to both heat and humidity. The result is crisper sound at the high end, adding to your overall sound experience.

The two other systems we have set up in the house feature the Pioneer VSX 1021-K and higher end Polk speakers with the BIC F12 Subwoofer. After listening to these systems for many months, I was extremely pleased. I wasn't expecting much from these less expensive Sony speakers at all. Let me say, in a word. WRONG!!! This combination of speakers and A/V receiver create really good sound. Not quite as crisp as my other systems, but darn close. I was blown away when I cranked everything up. The Sony's handle the power that the Pioneer throws at them with no problem at all. The Sub (W2500) looks kinda cheezee with the plastic back end, but I'll be darned if this little sucker doesn't put out some really nice sound. One thing I must say that really blew my mind is this. When I first fired everything up, I was getting great sound and plenty of bass. I felt like , hey this was a really great deal. Then, I realized I had failed to power up the sub. Once I did that, it was the icing on the cake.
In short if you're looking for some really nice sounding speakers for your A/V set up and don't want to drop thousands just on the speakers, these Sony's are your ticket. They do lack a whee bit in the mid range area, but i haven't fiddled with or adjusted anything yet. I was so excited at how good they sounded right outta the box that I wanted to write a review and encourage anyone sitting on the fence to jump in, the water's fine in the Sony pool. I'd buy these again with zero hesitation. These are truly an outstanding value and will serve most people well. If your an audiophile perfectionist, these aren't for you. It you're a person who likes great sounding speakers that can be cranked up and still deliver crisp, clear, and clean sound, and you don't wanna spend a lot, trust me on this, go for it.
Amazon did a great job with delivery, as always.
Then . . . Mahler's Symphony No. 2. Easy to voyage into that big world with these speakers.
Oh yes. All sure sound good to my ear. Deep, full, separated.
I am happy !
They are not broken in so the sound quality will improve over time for a while. I know these are not high end speakers and one can easily spend thousands. Usually I buy high end in my other hobbies etc. For example my road bicycle is worth several thousand dollars.
There may come a time when I pursue those subtleties that can be had in high $ audio equipment but for now I agree with the others here. These are pleasing speakers.
Update November 2012
I just ordered and received a second pair of these speakers for use in another room of our house. Still great ! ! ! I have been playing them all day for days now and no complaints. For my use I LOVE these speakers ! Made in Malaysia if you care one way or another.
They are very clear at all volume levels; My receiver is 120 watts per channel and the sound level in a 14'x25' room can reach nearly unbearable levels without ever reaching maximum volume on the receiver.
Classical music sounds absolutely amazing on these, I would say comparable to a true high-end $1k tower. Everything else also sounds great with these, I listened to dubstep on them without my subwoofer on and I was genuinely amazed at how much bass these put out on their own, I did not expect the thump and rumble they produced from such a low priced speaker. I actually turned my crossover down to 60hz and turned my subwoofer level up, so now I get plenty of bass in the normal range of music and movies without giving myself a headache and the ultra low frequencies get to really rumble during scary scenes and giant explosions. These are my fronts with the SS-CN5000 as my center and it sounds great.
I was planning on using these until I built a true home theater and then swapping them to be the surrounds. After using them for a while I think I will just buy another set of these to use as surrounds and keep them as the fronts and spend the extra ~$1000 I was planning to drop on high-end brand name towers on a better projector/screen or seating.
I saw some people commenting that the high and mid frequencies were lacking and I would have to disagree. I ordered mine in August 2011, so I don't know if something changed in them, but high frequencies are not an issue at all. When I did the automatic MCACC microphone setup on my receiver it did increase gain on the high frequencies a few dB, so I suppose if you do not have the ability to make the adjustments, the high frequencies might be a little bit quiet, but I actually turned the gain back down a bit because the highs were a little too piercing for my tastes.
In short, if you are looking for towers, buy these. Unless 180 watts is not loud enough for your setup, maybe because you have a 20'x30' room with 15' ceilings, then you might need something more expensive, but with a room like that you probably don't care too much about price.
