This tape deck has everything I need accept I do not have recording on two decks, so I still love it!
There is an auto-ververse feature whitch I love, also the pitch control is outstanding!
I also tried the High-speed dubbing and regular speed dubbing, amazing! But, my favorite feature of all is recording! I can use Dolbie B and C to record stuff!
As a result, I get the most awesome pure sound like I got the tape from a music store or thrift store!
Over all you should get this tape deck while you can, bucause it is rare to find nowdays!
I might consider buying the higher end modle in the future.
Now if you are wondering what I had to do just to set up the unit, I used the sound system whith my boombox that is also sony, works flawless! I had all the cables I needed too!
Before I baught the product, I downloaded the PDF file of the manual pretty straight forard.
The nbuttons are easy to distingwish for a blind person to use.
I forgot to mention one thing, I love the track search feature!
Every time it searches a track the unit finds a break from at least three seconds long and rewinds the tape a little bit to make sure it goes to the track that I want to hear. Hope you will enjoy the product in the future after you have read this review! Thank you sellers for making this product obsileete to a money-making treasure finding Vintage experience!

I bought this reconditioned SONY twin cassette deck for a specific purpose: to create master tapes of antique 78 rpm shellac records. In the triple filter process I've invented, the cassette tape is the first step. Once a 60 or 78+ minute tape is recorded, it's played back to a CD burner. That finished CD of 3 minute songs is used with a slideshow of images, and each song captured by a camcorder. The videos are then uploaded to YouTube.
To see these videos, search for my name at YouTube. I have some songs that are over 100 years old, also many newer ones.
Over the years I've used many brands of cassette deck, but I always look for and prefer SONY, for their durability, extremely low flutter, and high fidelity.
Buying used electronics can be risky, so always seek out dealers with the highest percentage of satisfied customers. My cut-off point is anything below 95% satisfaction. In all these years that has served me well.

I have a professional grade recording studio, and we bought this to bring in older material from cassette. The transports quickly lose the ability to move tape in fast forward or rewind. I assume this is a failure in the "auto-reverse" mechanism, which never need or use. But just attempt to shuttle either deck in either direction in FF or R and transport disengages. Can only move tape with the Play buttons. This is going to the dumpster. Sony should not have put their name on this.

What I liked the most is that the unit worked as advertised, after I repaired and purchased a manual. The recording side button that is pushed to open the door and insert a tape was missing. I could hear it rolling around inside the unit. I had to open the top cover to verify it was the pushbutton assembly. I then had to unscrew the recording head assembly to place and secure the pushbutton so it could be manipulated from the front of the cassette unit. Then I had to reattach the recording head assembly and hope for the best. I then had to go online to find and pay for a manual that I then had to print using my paper and ink. I can't imagine how this unit got shipped without noticing that the pushbutton was missing. It would also be nice to mention that a manual was not included. Other then that, the unit was in good condition and worked as advertised.

This refurbished Sony cassette player/recorder is super. Works perfectly like a new one. It is unfortunate that Sony and other Japanese electronics companies all discontinued manufacturing this kind of sensible great products. I felt lucky that I could still find this refurbished one. I hope I can use it for a long time.

I recently purchased this sony tape deck and hooked it up to my stereo system ( also sony ) and it plays beautifully, no problems whatsoever and it is so simple to operate you really don't need the users manual, sound quality is also great, I played some old tapes from the 90's and there was no hiss, hence, there is nothing for me to complain about. I have seen where other reviewers complain about the sound quality but i think it depends on the type of system you have ( amp / receiver, speakers, eq., etc. ) while bearing in mind that this is strickly ' home audio equipment' not professional or hi - tech., I highly recommend this tape deck to anyone who is looking for an inexpensive way to record and play cassette tapes with great sound. If this tape deck came with a remote it would be perfect, that's the only reason I gave it 4 stars as a remote would definately make recording a lot easier, but it's not a big deal to me. Update: (5/9/13 ) I am extremely happy to report that after 2 years my tape deck is still fully functional and I have not experienced any problems. I have recorded over a 100 cassette tapes on this deck and sometimes when I am playing them, they sound so good and clear, I have to do a double take to make sure I am not listening to a CD. I also play this deck an average 4 hours per week. Buyers, don't be afraid to take a chance on this Sony tape deck.

A great cassette deck
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on January 2, 2012Verified Purchase
This is a great cassette deck with excellent sound quality, as per Sony standards. The Dolby B/C HX Pro enhances this sound quality even further and is the main feature of this deck. There are fewer features overall on this deck compared to previous Sony decks and to its counterparts from Pioneer and TEAC. However, if the main criteria is top end excellent sound quality with only basic functionality, then this is the ideal cassette deck. It is also a fitting farewell and salute from Sony to the cassette tape era.

It was short of operating instructions. Those received after a request were for a slightly different model. what works works very well.
