Bought to watch TV while on my stationary bike. I am running my TV through my stereo and then through the headphone jack I have this plugged in. I'm transmitting to my Jabra headphones. I am approximately 15 feet away with a direct line of site / nothing blocking this product directly in front of me. My first attempt it cut out every 2-3 seconds so I charged my headphones to full and moved the product closer to the bike about 2 feet. Ran it again and it would still cut out every once in a while (maybe every 30 seconds but then would keep skipping for 10 seconds in 2 second intervals).
I also was hoping to be able to connect my phone as a receiver in case my headphones died but was unable to do this with my Razr Maxx.
I have not utilized this as a receiver yet.
Very frustrated with this product especially for the price. I will try and update my review after more uses.
++++++ Update 2/2013 +++++++++
After multiple uses still frustrated with the range of this unit. I have now purchased a 20 ft headphone jack and will have it as close as I need it.
As mentioned in other reviews there is a lack of sound quality when you plug this in to the headphone unit to your TV.
Would not recommend this product to anyone for transmitting.

We are using the Sony two-way bluetooth adapter as a receiver and it works flawlessly in conjunction with the Sony bluetooth wireless transmitter for the iPod. We purchased a refurbished bluetooth adapter through Amazon and even though we had difficulties with the first adapter which we had to return and exchange, once we received the second bluetooth adapter, it was very easy to set up and worked perfectly with the Sony bluetooth wireless transmitter for the iPod. Once you press the bluetooth wireless transmitter, the bluetooth adapter quickly recognizes it within 3-4 seconds and you are immediately able to play songs on your iPod and transmit it through to your stereo system. I can't comment on the transmitting ability of the bluetooth adapter as I have never used it for that function, but as a receiver, it is fantastic. I would say that the range of our setup is about 30 feet before the music begins to break up and he start to hear static over the speakers. It is great to be able to play your music on your iPod and still be able to play it over your stereo system without any wires. The bluetooth adapter is very small and can be hidden behind your receiver. We had not experienced any interference with any of our other bluetooth/wireless devices. I would definitely recommend this bluetooth adapter especially if you can get it for around $30. I have tried various other wireless transmitters for the iPod (i.e Belkin, iRock, no names) and I would have to say that the Sony bluetooth wireless transmitter is by far the best transmitter we have had. Then again it is bluetooth and doesn't have to be played over your FM radio. I can't think of any negatives for this bluetooth adapter other than you do have to plug it into a power source and that can be inconvenient, but other than that this thing works as described and you probably won't have any troubles with it.

My goal was to be able to stream audio from my iPhone to an amplifier and speakers out by the hot tub. The amp and speakers are AC powered, and are safely out of reach of the water, and the iPhone is kept in a watertight enclosure. Wireless is really only the safe way to bridge the gap, and now that the phone natively supports A2DP, bluetooth is the obvious choice.
I haven't tried to use the device as an A2DP transmitter - I've only evaluated it as a receiver. And at that, it works flawlessly, so far as I can tell.
A2DP audio is compressed, so it's never going to sound as good as a wired interface will. But that's not a knock against this product as much as against bluetooth devices in general. Also, in my particular installation, the hot tub area is nearby the office, where I have a bluetooth gateway device to allow the cell phones to operate over the house phones. If I'm not careful to switch that box off before attempting to use the phone to send audio out by the hot tub, the two will fight with each other over the right to connect to the phone. But again, that's just how bluetooth works - not a flaw in this unit, per se.
No, the only thing I can really find fault with about this item is its price. It's one, maybe two chips, a wall wart, two buttons, two LEDs, two jacks and a switch in a shiny plastic box. It couldn't have cost more than $5 to build, but Sony's MSRP is $80. That's outrageous. Even Amazon's discounted price is a little hard to swallow.
Having said that, I have bought one, so swallow, I did. And despite my kvetching, I am glad I did.

Works for me, every day

A couple of months ago I was looking for a solution to listen to TV and videogames wirelessly with earbuds. I didn't want those typical, bulky and expensive wireless headphones. I bought this transceiver in conjunction with a Sony Ericsson MW600 Bluetooth stereo receiver. After a couple months' use several times a week, I find this product does the job well.
Pairing and operation is easy. If the MW600 is turned on first, the transceiver will establish a link automatically seconds after being turned on.
Sound quality is very good with the MW600, especially with in-ear headphones: I was very impressed with the lower frequencies when I watched Transformers on over-the-air digital TV. Just remember not to set the volume of the source too high: past a certain point you will get audible distortion. So get the volume right on your TV or stereo and then adjust sound volume with your receiver (in my case the MW600) for fine-tuning. Maximum sound volume may thus be limited, depending on your receiver's power. I usually end up setting the MW600 volume to 50-80%.
Something that may be annoying is the short lag this product introduces between video (TV) and audio. It's about 0.1-0.2 second, noticeable at first in action scenes and quick dialogue but frankly I have forgotten about it now. But don't think of using this to create a wireless link to your surround speakers: the lag would ruin the effect. (Actually I cannot confirm the lag is entirely due to this transceiver, as it could be partly because of the MW600; but since it has the job of converting analog-to-digital it is probably the culprit).
The range is also limited. I used this product to have my iPod Touch play through my sound system while carrying it in my pocket around my flat. Past 15 feet or a couple of objects you will get cuts in the audio. The MW600 is much better at this job. But I can watch TV from 10 feet away, no problem.
So in short, the pros:
-Simple operation
-Transceiver (can act as both receiver and transmitter)
-Good sound quality as transmitter
-Inexpensive compared to other options for watching TV wirelessly
The cons:
-Limited receiving range compared to MW600
-Short lag in transmitting audio, noticeable as imperfect sync with video
-No battery, must be plugged in

Easy to set up , occasionally lost signal but that doesn't bother me much,
works better on the transmission than the receiver side.

OK but overpriced for the mediocre quality

The item was delived promptly so I have no complaints with the re-seller. The item works OK. However, it will not sinc with just any blutooth headset. So far I have tried three different Motorola headsets and it has only successfulty sinced with one of them and the sound quality is only mediocre. Furthermore, as with several other reviews of the Motorola S10-HD Bluetooth Stereo Headphones, the volume cannot be adjusted. I suspect that the headset is at fault but I think the Sony transmitter has to take some of the blame. Overall, I cannot recommend this item.

Obtained this unit to match up with my Bluetooth headphones and my surround sound. I can now run on my treadmill and not wake my wife sleeping upstairs and still get the full sound effect from the movie i'm watching. Im very pleased with this unit as it does exactly what i wanted. It takes up little space too.
