It produces a solid 4K picture that looks like it was from a more expensive player. The set up is very simple--just choose your language and set up your wireless connection for the basics. Most of the default settings work fine for most users.
The operation is very intuitive. When the opening screen comes up, press the open/eject button, insert your disc and press PLAY and your done.
This 4K player has 2 HDMI outputs--one for audio/video and the second for audio only. This is very helpful if you are using a receiver with this player.
Sony has put the latest video technology into the X700--Dolby Vision. It produces a more vivid picture with better contrast. Be advised that this feature does not come out of the box. You have to update Sony's latest firmware to get this technology that was not available on the previous model, the X800.
There are some minor complaints with the X700. The primary concern is that the included remote is smaller than last year's model. Good luck using the remote if you have large fingers. It is nice that the footprint is smaller with the X700, but its light weight can't keep it steady while pressing the open/eject button. The X700 weighs only just over 3 lbs., while the previous model was 8-1/2 lbs.
The Sony UBP-X700 is a solid 4K player. When it was first released it was priced at $250. It currently is priced at under $200. That makes it a great bargain for someone looking for a feature-laden 4K player.
This player finally checks all of the boxes: affordable, capable, and supports Dolby Vision with a free firmware update.
The player itself feels a bit flimsy, much like the sub $100 commoditized players Sony and others sell in department stores. But the visual quality is superb and will deliver better visuals thanks to Dolby Vision provided your movie and your television support that HDR format. The player performs nicely with a relatively quiet operation and a smattering of apps that are likely already on your TV. Blu-ray movies load quickly and play back reliably.
See more details in the attached video review.
This will not stream reliably, after a a few days or about 20 hours of streaming it will completely hang and needs to be unplugged and replugged to be used.
Second, so sad that Sony is using it's products to limit functionality of competitors. I have Hulu Live and guess what, Sony Blocks live streaming! disheartened that Amazon would allow this product on their site without an asterisk.

PS my thoughts on Dolby Vision: this is perhaps the sole reason to get this model over the ubp800x model, plus it’s a hundred bucks cheaper. I get the reason why people would get the 800 version due to the built quality which is superior than the 700 and for those who don’t care about Dolby vision. Well I cannot make any critique on Dolby vision because currently I don’t have any content that supports it. But you still can play films with Dolby vision even though it doesn’t support it. Dolby vision kinda warms up (scenes look brownish and orange tan) or darken the color palette of the movie which doesn’t suit my taste in watching a film. I like vibrant and vivid colors that bring scenes to life. Finally this update doesn’t toggle on or off Dolby vision automatically, you will have to toggle it on when the contents does support Dolby vision. That was a bummer...in my opinion. Finally when Dolby vision is on, you cannot make any adjustments to picture quality! Hope the next update will fix this issue.
Ojo: Si tienes dvds ten en cuenta que este reproductor solo lee Region 1 los region 4 no los leera ya que es un producto de USA.
I previously owned a Sony Blu-ray player that suffered from long button lag on the controller and the unit itself. Thankfully that’s not an issue with the Ubpx 700.
Button response is fast.
The build is solid. It doesn’t feel too light or cheap. The concealed tray mechanism works well and the player isn’t too loud either. I’m still awaiting the upcoming DolbyVision update and I can’t wait to see how that looks with HDR discs.
I would definitely recommend this player.
People have mentioned low build quality and it being noisy but it seemed sturdy to me, and i didnt hear any sound after the initial second of slight whirring when you put a disk in. 0 sound heard throughout the movie. Controller works great and it is easy to update.
However it would not connect to my wifi and i had to plug an ethernet cable in, which worked fine.
Overall would highly recommend
Edit: So the price dropped $100 the day this thing gets delivered to me. I contacted the seller to ask for a price match and they said that would he ok and passed the info on, yet nothing happened. Emailed again and got no response
On the - side: This is a good player but honestly in 2019 you wish they would include the HDMI wires that are recommended for it. I know that when they first released the Blu-Ray players in 2006, the HDMI wires were new and more expensive but now, it should just be included. I had to buy two sets to get the right one. The ones I had didn't seem to be good enough for the action scenes. (There was a weird pixelation appearing for a split second during certain action scenes in certain areas of the image). I did some research and fixed the problem with a new HDMI wire and now it works perfectly.
Would definitely recommend.
