Spectacular Full HD pictures with Advanced Reality Creation
Advanced SXRD panel technology is teamed with Advanced Reality Creation - Sony's Super Resolution processing technology that refines subtle details, colors and textures. You'll see the difference with crisp, sharp Full HD pictures that take you closer than ever to the original 1080p source.
High brightness and high contrast ratio
With an impressive 1,800 lumens brightness and high contrast ratio, Full HD images are clear and with bright highlights and rich, deep blacks – even in well-lit rooms.
Smooth, fluid on-screen action
Coupled with the panel's super-fast response rate, Motionflow technology means you’ll see every detail with minimal blur - no matter how fast the action.
Up to 6000 hour rated lamp operating life (in Low mode) means simpler maintenance, with fewer lamp swaps and reduced running costs.
Flexible home installation with wide zoom and shift lens
The manual zoom lens with a 1.6x zoom ratio and wide lens shift range gives greater installation flexibility in any room size, even with high ceilings.
Industry standard RF 3D compatible
The projector's built-in RF transmitter synchronizes with compatible Sony and 3rd party RF 3D glasses for wider coverage and greater stability, so there’s no need for an external transmitter.
Cinema-like 3D brightness
Sony’s dynamic lamp control technology and rechargeable 3D glasses work together perfectly to establish vibrant, cinema-quality brightness levels on your favorite 3D movies and shows.
Forget that the projector is even in the room due to the advanced air discharge system. Sony’s whisper-quiet fan emits only 22db during show time.
Powerful picture calibration features
Quickly calibrate your picture to the type of content you’re enjoying with nine unique modes including a variety of cinema, gaming, photo and user customizable pre-sets.
You're always up to date with the latest features and firmware updates via the projector's USB port.
Three-year limited warranty
All Sony Elevated Standard (ES) projectors enjoy three-year limited warranties.
With the fan exhaust positioned at the front of the projector, you don’t need to worry about wall clearance and room for air intake/exhaust when installing. This helps maximize throw distance, for the biggest possible projected images.

But is it WAY WAY better than the older Sim2 HT-300E (1080i) projector it replaced? Not really. The Sim2 was pretty good for an older projector in its own right, and in some respects "smoother" in its presentation than the Sony. I bought the Sim2 used for $395, so $ for $ I think the Sim2 was the better buy for me.
2D to 3D conversion was not what I would have hoped for--my expectations were probably unrealistic to start with, but decent. I have yet to view dedicated 3D content on the PJ. The recommended 3D glasses are very poorly designed for those of us who wear glasses.
Just watched The Hobbit in 3D. REALLY VERY GOOD 3D--which was what I was hoping for in the projector. Just upgraded my review to 5 Stars.
The projector was packed very well and easy to set up. I purchased one of the low-mid level 100" screens here on Amazon that had good reviews and the same for the ceiling mount. I have absolutely no regrets about transitioning to gaming on this thing. My game room is not light controlled, I have 2 windows facing south. They have blinds but during the day there is a lot of ambient light coming through them and the doorway (with no door). On darker games like Elite Dangerous, the stars and nebulae are a bit washed out, but playing a Battlefield game, Minecraft, Skyrim, pinball, Borderlands, Rocket League, etc, I have no issues (point being this projector can handle a lot of ambient light in the room, even on economy setting).
There is a very minor amount of noise from the projector. When I switched to economy mode I really can't tell its running anymore and the projector sits about 5 ft above my head.
I've been playing games since Xmas of '82 and very much recommend this projector for games. Movies look awesome too btw. I don't have this hooked up to cable or OTA TV, not my cup of tea as they say.
Right out of the box and with the default settings, the picture is immediately and obviously MUCH better than the old Oppo could muster. 1080p was much more crisp (I'm viewing a 92" diagonal from about 11' away) and the black levels are *great*. Projecting on to a 'Greywolf' screen (not pure white) the contrast and black levels are such that it's actually difficult to tell if the projector is on when there's no content displayed. On several occasions now I've found myself waiting for the projector to come on, only to finally hit a button to try the menu or wake-up the media player and have the screen instantly appear-- it's that black when it's 'dark'.
The fan is very quiet-- again, a big improvement over my old projector. Even though I have it (temporarily) set up much closer to my viewing position the fan is an order of magnitude quieter than before, so that's another huge win for me.
The color is great and thankfully the 'rainbows' from my old DLP are finally banished forever! Although I didn't run a full color calibration, everything looked just fine to my eye-- nothing made me want to tweak settings which was a first for me with a projector of any sort. Using a Playstation 4, FireTV, and TiVo Mini all sources worked just fine and in general (more on that later) produced excellent images.
Setup is really nice-- there's a built-in test pattern (handy) for aligning and sizing the image. Although the lense shift stops felt a little 'fragile/plastic-y' they worked and it's a very nice feature to have. Zoom and focus work great and have plenty of precision to get a great 1080p display setup.
The menu options are very numerous and there's plenty of things to mess with. There's lots of presets and various image processing items that can be played with as well as dynamic black level effects, lamp brightness, etc. My major (and really only significant) complaint is with the image processing. While the image looked fabulous 99% of the time once in a while (maybe every 10-30 seconds) there was a noticeable 'stutter' in movie playback. This did not seem to occur when watching live TV on the TiVo or shows on FireTV. It was, however, noticeable when using either Plex or Kodi on the FireTV to watch movies. I concluded that it must be a network problem on my side (I'll spare you the tales of endless tests and debugging trying to suss that out). To make a long story short-- no, it wasn't my network, it was the "Motionflow' processing.Turning Motionflow 'off' cured the stutter completely as did turning on 'lag reduction' (which turns off Motiongflow automatically). This is a shame since Motionflow really did a nice job smoothing out the slight 24fps 'stutter' you see in things like the credits roll at the end of a film and (to my surprise) I actually liked the effect. (Normally I'm one to turn all that sort of processing off.) There's a variety of different algorithms that can be selected for Motionflow and while different settings did change the manifestation of the 'stutter', none of them eliminated it and now that I'm sensitized to seeing it I can't *un*see it, so I had to turn the feature off.
My only other complaint is that the remote appears to be IR only which seems a bit 'cheap' for a $2K projector when TiVo and Amazon give nice little Bluetooth remotes with their <$100 offerings.
All in all, I'm very happy with the purchase-- it's a huge upgrade from my old DLP projector. At some point I'll investigate firmware updates and see if there's any improvements to Motionflow and if I can ever get that to work consistently without annoying visual artifacts I'll update my review.
