PROS:
*Sleek design, constructed of aluminum and gorilla glass (level 6 on Mohs scale).
*Display, it's wonderful, very bright, clear and crisp. High quality display while watching movies and playing games. 4K HDR.
*Aspect ratio 21:9, great for a few main stream GAMES, the display is entirely filled from all 4 edges.
*Battery life, 3330mAh, will last an 18 hour day with average/moderate use.
*Fast charging, will fully charge the battery from 0%-100% in approximately 90 minutes.
*Camera, rear facing camera takes phenomenal photos. Night mode for photography is outstanding and unrivaled, you can capture the night sky and all its stars with breathtaking quality. I have not found another phone that is able to compete with the Xperia's night mode.
*Operating system, using Snapdragon 855, Xperia 1 is fast and responsive to commands, with minimal lag. Highly customizable, as most Androids are.
*Speakers, while using the top ear and bottom speakers, this phone is able to deliver amazing audio quality with a surprising volume.
*Haptic feedback, an unusual addition to a phone but very nice detail. Great for use while playing games that support this feature.
*Remote play w/PS4, both being Sony products, the remote play feature works flawlessly, as expected. I have not discovered a game yet that is unable to be properly displayed on the Xperia. BEWARE: Both devices will need excellent WIFI to truly perform at the expected standard.
*Remotes, a DualShock 4 controller (PS4 remote) can be easily connected and function properly with 3 different methods. Remote can be used to operate the home screen of the phone and several apps. Connect remote via Bluetooth, or Bluetooth through the official remote play app (this adds additional customization) or hard wire the remote using a special plug and play cable (my personal favorite, as there is no lag).
*Bluetooth, add as many devices as you'd like. You are able to keep several connected at once. EX: Smartwatch, PS4 remote, car stereo all at once and still functioning.
*Service, works with main carriers such as Verizon and T mobile.
CONS:
*Aspect ratio 21:9, while great for some games, it is horrible for screen casting, screen mirroring and watching movies. As most TVs and computers do not recognize this ratio and leave the display unfilled. The same goes for movies, I have yet to find a movie that broadcasts in a 21:9 ratio, meaning the movie does not fill the phones display. I've tried YouTube, Hulu, and Netflix.
*Battery life, battery is small for this phones build. Leaves more to be expected.
*Advertisements! After all my attempts to stop random pop up ads, I've failed. You could be in the middle of a video call or watching a movie, and you will randomly receive a pop up ad.
*Fingerprint scanner, horrible design which leads to minimal functionality. Rarely ever works.
*Security, no face ID, as most other smart phones offer this feature.
*Service, gets poor service in low service areas due to a design flaw with receptor antennas. When compared to most other phones of similar stature and using the same carrier, the Xperia will ALWAYS be outperformed in terms of service and number of bars.
*Audio jack, nonexistent lol.
BUGS:
*Phone call BUG!, while speaking on the phone, regardless if you hold it to your ear or use speaker phone, the screen will often black out during the call (this is normal). However, some times when this happens, you are not able to tap the screen or use the side buttons to wake the screen. In turn, you lose your capability to multitask on your phone while mid call until one of the parties have hung up.
*Receiving phone call BUG!, occasionally when you receive a call, your screen will freeze (display still on), not allowing you to swipe/click to answer.
*Front facing camera, BUG! 3 out of 5 times while attempting to use an application that operates the front camera (Snapchat, Duo, Skype, Zoom and even the regular camera), the device is unable to operate the front camera and provides an error message prompting you to either restart the app or device. The quality of selfie photos and videos are less than par.
OVERALL:
I love the phone and the idea of its design, performs well and gets the job done. However, for the price you will pay, I will say that the Xperia 1 is not worth it. Sadly, I am in the market for a new phone because the 3 listed bugs and pop up ads are an absolute killer to this device. Will be getting the Xperia 1 Mark 2 Pro shortly, in hopes that it will outgrow these massive issues. Note: These issues may be special to just my phone in particular, i have not figured it out yet. Please feel free to contact me through Amazon if you have any questions, I will gladly do my best to answer and inform.

Finally ordered one over the summer. It arrived quickly and I was immediately using it for split screen activities, 4K video and its three lens camera (before the iPhone 11’s). I especially liked watching a soccer match or live news up top while reading below — only issue I experienced was the video stopping when I turned a page. Perhaps more to learn there.
I did experience initially the battery overheating when doing 4K video outside in the summer sun. So had to give it a rest. Not sure if rectified and/or something I did wrong (first case). I finally located the pricey smart screen cover and found even more utility to the phone (including lessening its bar of soap slippery lack of grip) without the ugliness of some rubber case.
I haven’t had any problems with the fingerprint reader. I am missing (again) the lack of WiFi calling although perhaps Google will remedy that. The size is a bit difficult for someone who prefers smaller devices but all is forgiven when watching a movie at 21:9 (although I turn off the Vibration mode).
I’ve always liked Sony phones and this one continues to impress. But when it comes to my daily driver the aging iPhone still wins out.
