Set up was very easy, using my gmail account I was able to pull the apps I had and I was up and running in no time.
The speaker is nothing special actually not loud enough
The projector is a joke. At $1700 you get 100 lumens of power, it appears to be the same as the LSPX-P1 from Sony. If you have your lights on is barely visible (see my photos).
The touch responsiveness was pretty amazing I have to admit. However, often the projector wouldn't wake up and detect movement and you had to first press the power button to wake the device.
It seems to be HD at over 720p but it I didn't find the resolution to be amazing, maybe because there is no way to manually focus the feed.
I didn't use it for extended period of times without being plugged in so I can't report on the battery.
Overall this could be a very promising product but the price needs to drop below $1K and the brightness needs to improve greatly. Maybe max out at 100 lumens when running on battery and go much higher when plugged in.
Because this has android software built in, it is a self contained media device. I don't have to connect an external blu-ray player or anything like that. Instead, just like my phone I have access to Hulu, Netflix, Amazon Prime video, etc. Set-up is identical to a phone so it's really easy to get going quickly. To project on the wall you simply turn it vertically and then pull it away from the wall to increase the size of the screen. When I pull away about a foot, the projection is 80in..... I think the neighbors can see this huge screen on our bedroom wall!
Control/Ease of use
This is where I have been pleasantly surprised. Because I was specifically wanting to use this in the bedroom, I wanted to have ease of control while in my bed. One way to accomplish this is to cast things from your phone. That works very well and essentially your phone is then your remote control. The part that is more amazing is the gesture control when running something like netflix, direct from the device. With a simple lift of a finger and some pinch and left/right movement, I can select a show, pause, fast forward, rewind, etc. It is so cool how easy this is and makes me feel like I am in the Minority Report
Outside of my bedroom for the use of setting it on a horizontal surface is really straightforward. It turns any surface into a 23 in touch screen, so it's just like using an Android tablet - touch and swipe, and voice control with Google - Super easy. Just as responsive as any tablet out there. The first time you see this working you will be blown away. It is unreal to be surfacing the internet on your coffee table.
The image is quite good when in dim room. It's not as crisp as a HDTV, but frankly I don't notice, and I'll take an 80in projection from a small box over a huge TV on my wall. The one downside to this product is that it is only 100 lumens. As such, trying to use this in direct sunlight or really bright overhead lights can be a challenge. My home is typically not lit up so it's not often a problem. Although it would be cool to use this as an outdoor projector when I am hosting a bbq
The fact that you can even go portable is amazing enough. It has lasted me about 2 hours which is plenty for my use but does mean I have to plug it in every morning, so it's ready for my next viewing
Overall, I love this product and am blown away by the options that are packed into such a small device - around the size of a router or maybe a bluetooth speaker. This met my need of keeping the minimalist design in my bedroom and given me more options to use it throughout my house or when I travel. I thought this would be a cool device to serve my addiction for TV shows, turns out its an all-in-one device that allows nearly any entertainment I can imagine and at any size
Also, expected sony to at least send a case for device this expensive.
Update: chatted with sony “specialist” for this device. He just bluntly said “no remote can be paired with this device since it has inbuilt sensors”
