Get more out of every beat and note
DSEE HX (Digital Sound Enhancement Engine) is a technology that lets you upscale low-res songs to near high resolution sound quality. It refines and restores heavily compressed MP3 and AAC files, delivering powerful, full-range audio.
Experience legendary sound
Block out the noise
Xperia Z3v comes with built-in digital noise-canceling technology that reduces exterior noise by up to 98% when paired with the headset MDR-NC31EM. The technology removes the lower-frequency parts of the noise, preventing the high-frequency part of it from reaching the ear. This way, a noisy bus or a busy shopping mall won’t stand in your way of a great listening experience.
(1) Noise sound wave
(2) Inverted, anti-sound, wave
- High-Res Audio reduces distortion and noise at wider frequency ranges to reproduce high frequency sound in amazing detail. So every track you listen to resembles the sound quality as it was originally recorded in the studio.

Pros: Pretty nice camera, I've taken quite a few photos already, mostly just to test the camera out. The camera focuses fast and takes decent pictures. The pictures are great for a smartphone in fact; however, I prefer my Nikon camera for anything in low light, far away, or taking any "important" pictures. For getting quick snaps this phone is perfect, especially with the dedicated camera button.
Call quality is great, I've had no issues. Voices come through very clear and loud enough that I chose to turn the volume down when speaking on the phone.
The touch screen is very responsive and the phone has yet to be slowed down by anything. Everything launches quickly and runs smoothly.
Battery life is okay, not great but will give you a day of miscellaneous use. I've been browsing the Internet, playing games, and watching streaming videos from Netflix and Amazon Instant Video intermittently for a couple hours and still have 54% battery. I really have no complaints about the battery life though, it lasts much longer than my Droid 3 ever did.
The phone is very fast on Verizon's 4G LTE network, I did a speed test and got 19.9mbs, a lot better than expected, I downloaded about 65 songs in just a couple minutes while downloading and updating apps.
There are a lot of features with this phone that seem awesome but I've yet to test them out, Qi Wireless Charging, PS4 remote play, Miracast, PS4 controller pairing, and many others.
Cons: Verizon's bloatware, any Verizon smartphone comes with a ton of preloaded garbage, this phone is no exception. It also comes with a couple Sony apps, like media viewers, lifelog, etc.
The phone seems to get pretty warm sometimes but the only warning I've gotten is from using the camera, it warns you that if the camera starts to get too warm it will shut down the camera app. It hasn't happened, just got warnings saying it could.
My biggest and really only problem with this phone is that I can't use a third party app to broadcast a Hotspot, this; however, seems to be a Verizon/Android 4.4 issue and not particularly this phone.
Anyway I'm very happy with this phone and would really recommend it to anyone.
Thought I would edit to mention a couple things. I've tested the waterproof ability of the phone by running it under cool water and submerging it in about seven inches of cool water, absolutley no issues.
The phone still works really well, still has great battery life. FoxFi (3rd party wifi hotspot app) finally got free wireless hotspot working without issues, though you have to pay extra monthly to use built in wifi hotspot.
PS4 remote gaming works okay, sort of hit and miss but probably my internet access at home (not very fast 29.9 mbs top speed).
The wireless charging is pretty slow, somewhat convenient, but I've stopped using it.
One thing I will mention, still no update to Android 5.0, while other phones (even other Xpera Z series) have been getting Android 5.1. It's a bit frustrating since Android 5.0 has been out on other devices for over a year. I suppose it's to be expected because it's a Verizon exclusive phone, but still.
Additionally cases and accessories are limited because it's a Verizon exclusive, not much available aside from general Android phone accessories. Nothing like what you would see with other similarly priced flagships like Samsung Galaxy phones.
UPDATE: Now having used this phone for about six months, I still love it! One really important thing I discovered was that after using it for several weeks, the battery life slowly improved to the point where some days it didn't go down below 90%, even with moderate use of a variety of its many features. On trips to remote sites with poor cell coverage, the battery held up very well (with good management practices), and this allowed me to use the phone as a portable star chart for astronomy, a moving map for hiking, etc.
No device this complex is completely bug-free, and a lot of the bugs are as much Android as they are Sony. They have been very few and far between. The worst thing that has happened is one day, someone was viewing a picture on the phone, using the Android photo viewer app. She rapidly and repeatedly enlarged the picture by 'reverse pinching it', until the picture was suddenly (and completely) deleted from the phone. So in general, this is still the best phone I have ever owned, and I intend to keep it for quite a while.
