From the Manufacturer
What is an unlocked phone?
An unlocked phone is a device that is not bound to any carrier or plan. It allows you to choose your phone first and your carrier second. Upon selecting a plan, simply insert the carrier's SIM card into the phone and you're ready to go. If you decide you want to change carriers down the road or want to take an international trip, it's as simple as replacing your existing SIM card with a new SIM and activating your new plan.
What are the benefits of an unlocked phone?
Freedom: Choose the carrier with the best service or price. If you find a better deal later, you have the ability to change to a different carrier.
Travel: Take your phone internationally and use the carrier of your choice. It's as easy as inserting an active SIM card.
Selection: Choose the phone with the features you want, whether or not your carrier sells it, and get more service options without a contract.
How do I set up my unlocked phone?
The first thing you’ll need is a SIM card for your desired carrier. When activated, the SIM card will let your phone connect to your carrier’s network. If you decide to upgrade to a newer unlocked phone in the future, you can easily remove the SIM card from your old phone and put it in your new phone—just make sure you get the right size of SIM card (nano, micro, or standard) for your phone. If you want to use your phone while traveling internationally, you can easily buy a SIM card for a carrier that operates where you’re traveling. As long as it’s activated, you can just swap SIM cards when you arrive at your destination.

I am particularly impressed with the headphone output on this phone. resolution and quality of output are on par with an HTC One M8. The M8 has the edge in absolute power output but this phone is capable of making good use of a Tidal account on the go. Has enough power to drive the Shure Srh-1840 to uncomfortable levels. Doesn't seem to mind hte ultra-low impedance of the Shure SE846 although absolute refinement of sound seems to take a slight hit compared to the HTC one M8. Four hours of Tidal streaming @ CD quality seemed to eat about 10% of the phones battery driving the SRH-1840 and the screen mostly off which I consider to be another solid showing.
Especially for the money, I feel its quite a nice device.
Within 3 hours of arrival, and fresh off a system update, the phone was shutting down the camera app due to thermal issues, and I was getting notifications about temperature problems. Whether I was taking 8mp images or 60fps full hd, same problem. If a phone's primary advertising feature is its camera's capabilities, those features should work.
The display has a very odd tint to it, making whites appear red/purple, and giving other colors a weird cast, regardless of the xreality settings...maybe they put too much red in their Triluminos display technology...Adjusting the color calibration brings it closer to white, but gives things a greyish cast as well.
While attempting to charge the phone using the supplied adapter, it was discharging faster than it could charge...all I was doing was downloading apps through google play, and had the screen on.
Maybe I just got a dud, but Sony support killed it for me when their only solution was to check the return policy of the store from which I purchased, and then get sarcastic with me when I asked if that's all they were able to suggest.
If this were priced as a midrange phone, I'd be more lenient, but at more than half a grand this is just unacceptable.
Given that Sony has shuddered direct US sales of this phone, and their support is all overseas, I think I'm done with Sony Mobile. Too bad, too, cause the Z3 really was incredible.
You can imagine my extreme disappointment when I woke up one morning to find my Sony Z5 screen was behaving oddly. I observed that my screen had developed a single crack.
Actually my phone had a glitch the day before but there was no crack then and it resolved itself after a reset.
I contacted Sony who asked me to send it off to their repairer which I did. Their repairer told me that since it was physical damage it was not covered under warranty.
I tried very hard to get Sony to agree to pay for the warranty. I even told them I have photographs that show that this phone had chips on the side of the glass. They refuse to entertain any evidence.
They refused to entertain the possibility that my screen could have any sort of manufacturing defect that could have contributed to a spontaneous crack.
Before this it was a great phone that had a lovely camera albeit only in the day. It had better battery life than most phones I had used and looked lovely. But a phone that spontaneously cracks after just 5 months, regardless of how good it is, is a completely substandard product. Given that the company was unwilling to even listen to me inspite of evidence shows that Sony as a company cannot be trusted.
I am going to get the screen fixed, sell the phone and buy something else but never ever in my life will I trust Sony.

So far pretty good upgrade from my Z3. My only complaint is volume rocker position. It's a little low. Fingerprint seems too work well.Published 27 days ago by Keith
