Sophia and the Fisherman is not the kind of book that I would pick up. When I read the back cover, I thought to myself ‘this is just another romance novel.’ I was wrong. The novel is a short read, but it grabs the reader and refuses to let go as it takes you from England, to France, and the Cote D’Ivoire. The story is well written with few grammatical mistakes and does not have any plot issues that this reader found. While the ending does not poses the twist I was hoping for, it still fits nicely with the story and leaves the reader satisfied.
As has been said by most other reviewers of this book, I found myself wanting more. Like sitting down to an incredible meal at a really expensive restaurant. The food is wonderful, but there is not nearly enough! I also found myself having a love/hate thing with Sophia, she seemed at the same time shallow and selfish, and giving and selfless. That was a hard character to write, I am sure, and I believe my ambivalence about her could have been cured with a little more time with her.
All in all this is a cute, quick romance that would truly be suitable for anyone. A great way to spend a little free time.
Sophia arrives in SW France in hopes of taking a break and getting her life back in order. Instead she encounters sexy hunk Laurent Mongaudon, and from there an intense attraction between these two comes into play. Laurent however is more than meets the eye, which added an air of mystery to the story.
I really enjoyed the book. As I stated before it was a quick read. Sometimes I like books like that. I think anyone who likes a good romance, with a touch of mystery would find this book a good read.
Although it's a considerably short read, I absolutely enjoyed the story and was able to read it in two seats. A woman who's chetated by her husband escapes from reality for a little soul searching, and ends up living an exquisite romance with a mysterious fisherman.
I highly recommend this novel if you love reading and don't have much time to do it. A highly-enjoyable story!
I didn't like Sophia in the beginning because she was such a take charge type of person that she was rude and willingly ran rough shod over people to get her way. As the story progresses, she softens as she realizes that she has a tendency to overreact. I liked the sweet romance that develops between Sophia and Laurent as they learn more about each other. I liked Laurent right away although I did find his behavior suspicious. I definitely didn't blame Sophia for wanting to know what he was hiding. The only thing I disliked was there were a few scenes that were "told" instead of "shown". I felt that it would have added further depth and expression to the characters. Overall, good read for those who love sweet romances with a little bit of mystery thrown in.
