This one was a good mystery which kept me guessing until the end with lots of plot twists and a satisfying back story or two. Julie Ryan gives such a tantalising view of Greek island life and community that I could picture myself there very easily. It is a complex plot which could so easily have gone awry but Julie has managed to weave almost every story thread with success. The only thing which gave me pause in the whole book was when Kat’s daughter went missing. No spoilers here but I did find the circumstances surrounding this a bit far fetched including Kat’s reaction to who had taken her. As a mother myself I think I would have been more than a little put out to say the least! However, this was a sub plot and I can overlook it somewhat as the rest of the book was very entertaining.
I don’t often mention covers but this one is absolutely beautiful and so fitting for the story. I was already in Greece mentally before I read the first page.
Another book I could not put down until it reached a very satisfying conclusion. I can't wait to begin the next book. A Must Read from start to finish!!!
Sophia's Secret is thé perfect summer read. Julie Ryan transports you to sunny Greece and takes you on a wonderful journey through different generations.
I absolutely loved finding out more about the islanders' history and how all these different families are linked. Julie introduces us to a lot of different characters, but without it being overwhelming. Sophia's tale of the past isn't interrupted by events of the present, which makes it easy to get absorbed into her story completely. At the very end of the book there were some new 'twists' which weren't really necessary to me (& some events that 'happened' over the years seem a tiny bit far fetched at times), but didn't take away from the main story either.
I'm not a big fan of the cover... I like the picture, but I think it's the font that makes it look a bit amateurish? Sorry!
I really feel as though I know these characters and finding out Kat's family history in Sophia's Secret has been amazing. I absolutely loved reading Sophia's Secret and I would highly (!!) recommend this wonderful summer read!
