Editorial Reviews

Review

"Sophie and the Airplane" was such an adorable story about a little girl with a passion for airplanes and a dream to go to the moon. It was so great to experience with Sophie the first time she gets to fly and to learn more about commercial air travel through her eyes!  I liked that the team at STEM Girls Books included real commercial flight facts in their story so that readers could learn as well as enjoy the adventure.

I also loved to see how Sophie's family helped bring her love of planes from the playroom to real life, and how she made sure to include her little brother in all of the events. She is not just a good role model for STEM girls but also big sisters!  It was a joy to get to know more about how a child's love of planes and space could lead to STEM careers, and to learn more about Julia Macon, a real life Aerospace Engineer. -Tamara Robertson, Actress and Chemical & Biomolecular Engineer

I love the STEM Girls Book series both as a father of two girls and as an elementary science educator. They fill a much needed gap in children's literature and are a must-have for every elementary teacher and parent of young girls. It is almost impossible to find a book for young children that is STEM focused and features female role models. These books hit the trifecta!

Aside from the series title, they're not just for girls. Young boys would enjoy them just as much. The books are just fun stories of curious kids doing what kids do. My favorite part is that at the end of each book, there is a connection between the interest of the character and the real life STEM career that shares those same interests: aerospace engineer, chemist, and a mechanical engineer. Just the fact that I get to have a discussion with my children/students about how they relate to the characters and then discuss a career they might be interested in is HUGE! How often do you get to bring up STEM careers with kids in a normal day? With these books, all the time! -David Ware, Elementary Science Educator and Parent

From the Back Cover

STEM Girls Books is a picture book series designed to show young girls that the world of science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) is a pretty cool and fun place to be.

Each book explores a specific STEM field through the eyes of a spunky, lovable character who leads readers on a journey of discovery and problem solving.

At the end of each story, readers will meet a role model - a professional woman succeeding in the STEM fields - and will learn about her exciting career.
