About the Author
Allyson McQuinn, DHHP, JAOH is a Doctor of Natural Medicine treating patients internationally by phone and Skype while living in Maritime Canada. McQuinn has published 2 other books, one entitled "The Path To Cure; The Whole Art of Healing" chronicling her son's exodus from the Autism Spectrum using the system of medicine that she now practices. The other book, "Unfolding The Essential Self; From Rage to Orgastic Potency" represents McQuinn's four year post-graduate research and is a guidebook mostly for fellow practitioners. Her other book also about to be published, "The Raw Milk Cleanse: My 35 Day Discovery On Nothing But Goat's Milk" is a self exploration during an annual fast that yielded some very surprising results. The latter book is due out in a month or two. Allyson is an avid hiker, camper, kayaker and lover of photography and nature. She and her husband and daughter will occasionally accompany her on her expeditions, however, she actually loves going on solo sabbaticals into the woods just to think and re-group. Her son is a city boy and does not share his Mom's love for camping and travel. McQuinn shares her medical practice with her husband, Jeff Korentayer where they help their patients reach the heights of health just as Sophie does in her book.

To be sure, I read this book primarily because I respect Dr. McQuinn as a Heilkunst homeopathic practitioner. I had wanted to learn more about the Heilkunst approach to sexual assault and the unraveling of sexual and heartbreak-oriented trauma. There was essentially nothing about any of that. After a sexual assault, Sophie is given some remedies and she feels better. That's the scope of the homeopathic discussion in this book.
Dr. McQuinn's "A Path to Cure" was much more compelling.
To begin, I am extremely picky when it comes to finding a book that generally grasps a hold of my attention. When I do find one though, I tend to read the book quite quickly. Never have I finished a book in less than two days, but I found myself not being able to set this novel down, so thanks to Allyson's amazing gift, I have a new personal record!
With her most recent masterpiece, "Sophie's Truth: How a Young Girl Unfolded Her Essential Self Through Love", Allyson introduces her characters to you in a way that makes you feel like you are a part of them, sharing with them the ups and downs that they are going through. I found myself instantly intertwined with their every thought, feeling out what they were, and rooting for them the entire way. Sophie, the young girl who lives under a roof with, what I like to think of it as, a screwed up family, gets an opportunity to escape. I got the feeling that Sophie thought of herself like a prisoner, finally being released; finally getting a chance to live the life her parents cut her short of with their constant fear-fed behavior. She is depicted to be self-motivated and no doubt mentally strong, which helps her push herself into living as a whole, healthy, deserving young lady. Sophie is blessed with so much drive in what she believes in, and is persistent when it comes to unraveling her real emotions and dealing with them in a healthy manner. Manny, the young male character, is also inspiring on so many levels. Their connection is like no other, but still gives you the understanding that it is possible to find. They feed off each others' energy and well-being, and grow together to create a steamy, honest, and beautiful romance. I could go on forever about the characters brought to life in this book, but I think I've made it clear that it is impossible not to fall in love with them, as they fall in love with each other.
Allyson's other literature devices used, are just as clever. Her use of personification, allusion, alliteration, foreshadowing, diction, dramatic irony, and so many others are hidden throughout this piece, only to benefit your reading, allowing for every word to come to life in front of you... and let's not forget her hilarious, sassy, and down-to-earth attitude she brings to the table for your own enjoyment!! Also, never is she caught leaving colorless spaces in her writing like I have noticed in a lot of other books in my past. She colors everything in, just like a child would use crayons to bring a coloring book to life with their own touch and point of view.
Ultimately, "Sophie's Truth: How a Young Girl Unfolded Her Essential Self Through Love", is truly a captivating piece of art. Allyson's book, to me, is really a symbol standing for something much greater than just a book. It is the answer to so many of our questions. Through her character's eyes, we are given many examples of what true love really is and what it takes to get to the happy and healthy place we all crave. We are guided into witnessing a friendship transforming into a love connection like no other, which causes us to do some serious soul-searching ourselves.
I feel blessed to have read something so mind-blowing, and I will continue to consume the knowledge and enjoyment she is giving all of us the chance to take part in, with whatever she comes up with next. Whether reading is naturally part of your life, or if you absolutely despise it, I guarantee you will fall in love with everything and every character in this book. There is so much and more to be said about it, but only by reading it will you fully be able to understand the meaning of life itself.
I didn't realize for many years what real love was supposed to be like.I was always searching and reading and trying to understand. I confused love and sex as one. Had it not been for God, my experimental life and nature not to give up after many failed attempts to find what I thought I was looking for,I would have never found my Manny.
Better than that ,I may have never realized he was my Manny and may have eventually emasculated him to the point that he hated me and I lost all respect for him rendering our love empty and eventually dead . Through my journey with heilkunst homeopathy and being lead to the one person who has helped me more than any other in my adult life (Ally)I am becoming more whole and enjoying my life and finally becoming the wonderful me I knew was inside.
Thank you Allyson Mcquinn for writing a book that will help young girls and we older Dolls as well as any man brave enough to read this book to find love that is a true whole body experience and where two people actually become one in spirit and mind and unite for a common goal.
A closeness that can only be explained as spiritual. A oneness that can make you laugh and or cry and the orgasm is not the end result or even the goal but instead another part of the journey. The Joy of caring more about loving your partner and they about loving you. BRAVO Ally for writing it.
