From the Author
One of the questions I am asked most often is what inspired my Immortal Guardians series--paranormal romance novels and novellas that feature dark and dangerous heroes, kick-ass heroines, action, passion, and romance. The easy answer is: this book, A Sorceress of His Own. There were, of course, other sources of inspiration--a documentary on the water bear, research into possible explanations for the emergence of vampire folklore, and a biography of King George, to name a few. But long before Sarah Bingham rescued Roland Warbrook with her trusty shovel in Darkness Dawns, I wrote A Sorceress of His Own . . . and the gifted ones were born.
Alyssa, the heroine of A Sorceress of His Own, was the first gifted one I created. And she, along with Seth, Roland and Marcus--all of whom appear in this book--fired my imagination and inspired many of the what ifs that drove me to create my Immortal Guardians. I am very pleased to bring you Alyssa's story. I hope you will enjoy it. And, for those who have read my Immortal Guardians books, I hope you will enjoy seeing Marcus as a mortal teenaged squire.

Ok, Dillon. He's supposed to be this incredible man but I just don't see him as a real character. Just like Alyssa, he has no flaws. He only dreams about having a kind wife and some kids, really? He just wants to cuddle? OK THEN. I feel like this guy represents a certain fantasy of the author's, which is fine, but I prefer more characters that I can relate to.
Overall, I think that both characters are too selfless and perfect for their relationship to really make sense for a reader. However, if you are someone who is super into the idea of " a woman's job is to take care of her man" then you'll like this book.
Kirsten Potter Is always amazing. As my favorite narrator she brings these characters to life and makes them feel real. Is this book worth a credit? For me it would be worth two.

There are no grammatical or editorial errors that I can recall. However, be aware that the book is set during the reign of Richard in the 1100's so although the language isn't that archaic it is tempered to the times. I thought the author did this quite well, after the first few pages you don't even notice it.
Speaking of language, the book is very well written, the language style draws you into the storyline. The characterisation is outstanding, I couldn't put the book down because I just had to know what happens next.
I have laughed out loud at a few scenes and I have sobbed at a few more, it's just a wonderful story beautifully crafted.
There are some sex scenes and very little, if any, swearing.
This is also where we meet Seth, Marcus and Roland for the first time so it makes an excellent precursor to the Immortal Guardians series. Which is the reason I finally decided to purchase the book, to see into their past a little.
Historical paranormal romance wouldn't normally be my first choice but I have seriously misjudged this book by dismissing it as not my thing.
I attended a performance of Chaucer's Canterbury Tales pre -covid and found the book held echoes of the humour that runs throughout the Tales and once you are able to relax into the cadence that is required for a historical story then the words take you places you'll never see.
I will be purchasing the next book in this series, just a pity there are only two books l
I found that this book captivated me; the characters were interesting and had me hooked, desperately turning the page to find out what would happen next, the historic setting felt well researched and accurate, the language used throughout added to the authenticity of time and place and the way the story evolved throughout the book never felt rushed, too slow or ill-considered.
This book involved me; I laughed, I cried and I felt fear for our main character, Alyssa. I can't wait to read the next book in this series.
Absolutely recommend this book
