The only thing I would change is the game resets you to level one when you leave any dungeon, but lets you keep items and weapons. So when you start a new dungeon or even return to a dungeon you left you will be level 1 again. This gives the feeling of a lack of accomplishment rather than the thrill of getting a higher and higher level with new abilities, but it also keeps the game fresh as your constantly building your character with no point where the leveling seems to take forever and tedious grinds. I'm not really sure how I feel about this mechanic in the game but its there like it or not.
I notice that the other reviews glossed over the fact that this is the type of dungeon crawler that Izuna:Legend of the Unemployed Ninja on the DS is. If you can stand high levels of frustration (I can) you may enjoy this. When you die in a dungeon, you lose all of your items you've collected as well al all of your money. Sometimes you may retain your weapon and shield and other times the dungeon gods decide that has to go as well. Not only do you lose everything, you start over at level 1. While you gain health after battles, you have a companion named Kuu that requires constant eating or he dies. You can feed him practically anything from weapons to food to scrolls, but it's a chore. He is a good fighter but it takes a lot of management to keep him going. I really missed him when he died and I had nothing to feed him and had to go on alone!
One thing is that the battle itself (which is like Pokémon Mystery Dungeon as well) it easy in general. However it's difficult to beat the boss at the end of the dungeon. I've beat one but can't figure out how to beat the next one yet. All my equipment that I fuse and power up etc. gets wiped out and I've had to start with weak equipment time after time. I'm not totally fed up yet though because the basic combat IS fairly easy.Read more ›
I found this game to be quite cute and funny. A nice combination of a Visual Novel and a Dungeon Crawler. Graphics are good but not perfect - the animation is a little stilted and there could have been more detail in the dungeons - also the game is spoken in Japanese and has English subtitles. To me, having the game spoken in Japanese actually adds to the appeal of the game.
This game's got a decent story line, quite different where you are a student and curry expert. I was never bored by the story, it moved quickly and I found the characters interesting. The combat is fun and easy. So if you are looking for a good Visual Novel that has a funny and engaging story with some simple dungeon crawls - this is your game. I highly recommend it - it is different, funny, and easy to play - exactly the type of game I like to play on a portable system!
The dialogue is amusing, and the characters are all lovable. The game play is pretty basic; you go to different dungeons to collect ingredients for The Legendary Curry, fight monsters in turned based combat with some of them dropping items for you to use, and return to town with the items to sell and whatnot. Each time you enter a dungeon, you start at level 1, and with only the items you brought with you. Death results in you losing all levels and items you've obtained, and you return to town. The dungeons are all randomly generated, so no two dungeon runs are ever the same (Though the forests leading to the actual dungeons are always the same layout.).
The plate, spoon and bib that come with the Limited Edition version are also really cute.
Also, a heads up if you get some of the extra outfits from the Playstation store, you have to connect to the internet EVERY time you start the game and want to use them.
Overall, I highly recommend this game to anyone who loves sweet little games with simple game play and replayability.
