El Nino (here's to hoping in the dry dry southwest!) - Only having a chance to use them once during recent rains I can say I feel comfortable that they will keep my feet warm and dry during anything that may come my way.
In regards to the way they fit - I love them. Having a smaller size foot for a male (7 1/2) I seem to always run into problems where shoes/boots either are too big, or too small, regardless of the size quote. Not with these! They fit perfectly, they also weren't too wide or too narrow. Whatever "standard" they go by when sizing is impeccable in my humble opinion!
The size is a bit too small if you go off of your running shoe, add half an inch, and you'll be okay. When I don't wear these to work, I wear them on a snowy day to shovel or play around. They are comfortable, they keep the water out, and they are warm to where I don't need thermal socks, but I tried them on with these socks, and they still feel comfortable not tight like other boots. Overall for the price you are getting a deal.
I run a 13.5 in sneakers so I normally buy 14's but have plenty of room in the toes.
I put these on with thin athletic socks and and my toes were crushed, like I was wearing a 12.
Also for what it's worth, the soles seemed thin for what is designed as an outdoor boot.
Didn't get the chance to really try them out, but I bet you would feel every pebble you stepped on.
Side note -
I'd never bought shoes from Amazon that didn't fit before so I didn't realize that I couldn't exchange them. The shoes must be returned and I must eat the cost of the return shipping since it's not really Amazon's fault that Sorel sizes their shoes down.
Then, if I wish, I place another order and hope they fit.
Hope this helps
If I'm able to try out a pair that fits I will update this.
