Regarding sizing, definitely size down. I am usually a size EU39 in everything, which usually correlates to a US9. If there is a discrepancy, I always go based on EU sizing. I referred to the Sorel website sizing guide (I included a photo of the size chart in this review) and chose the size based on my foot measurements. My foot is 24.5cm (~9.5") so I bought a size 8 (based on the chart, size 8 (EU39) was good for a 25cm long foot) and they fit perfectly! For reference, the boot itself measures about 11" long, but be aware that there is an inner liner that add some cushioning and thickness. I did not have any issues with rubbing on the back of my ankle like some of the other reviews, but I did notice that if you don't pull up on the inner liner when you put the boot on, the liner could bunch up and cause a wrinkle that might rub. Also, if tied the laces TOO tight, I noticed a tiny bit of rubbing in the back of the ankle. They go up to about mid calf and kind of remind me of snow boarding boots (but a little less clunky). They are a little difficult to drive in since the ankle part doesn't bed easily, but its a small sacrifice for being warm and toasty in the snow.
Overall these boots a must have for anyone looking to get around in the snowy winter months. Get your pair now before they sell out!!
We just had our first big snow in Chicago (7 inches), and these boots are phenomenal! I can wear just regular running socks and my feet are so warm, it doesn't even feel like I'm outside. I even stood in the 7 inches of snow for an extended period of time playing with my greyhound, and never felt the cold through the shoes. They wiped clean and I was able to kick the snow off easily with no tracking in our condo building. The laces are easy to use, even with gloves on (not too short to use with thick gloves), and they dry quickly as well. The fur on top never got wet, and repelled the water well. And I have no signs of scuffing around the boot either. They are perfect!
Today in Chicago we had a windchill of -11. I did wear two pairs of socks and only after an hour of walking downtown did my toes start to feel cold. However, I outlasted my friends! Best boots and still 100% satisfied.
