This is a terrible book. The plot is trite (I only finished the thing because I wanted to see if the author could pull something interesting off; I wasted that hope), and the characters are cardboard cut-outs. There is nothing intersting in the way the characters act or develop over the course of the book. The drama is weak and the tension nearly non-existant.
A big part of the problem, aside from the poor plot, is the poor writing. I would send this back for a re-write from a ninth grader, much less an adult author. The writing is so awkward, I wondered if the author was really brought up speaking English. The bio says he was raised in England, but describing Ripon as a "sleepy town" makes me wonder. And there was apparently no editing, either. Missing punctuation and inexcusable grammer (like fragments, run-ons, and misplaced modifiers) fill the pages. What to make of a sentence like: "...although surprisingly the ammunition supplies were surprisingly low for the amount of weapons available."? (That gem is at the top of page 135.)
If this is what iBooks, Inc published, it's no surprise they went bankrupt.
