I feel that this book was so powerful and thought provoking that it almost scared me.I got it for free and was pleased that I did. Please read this book if you have or know about incest, displaced family members, or the beginning stages of Alzheimers. this author put everything into this book where you wouldn't be lost and feel as though it ran all over the place. It shows love, fear, and redemtion. Also, be very careful of what you do in the dark because it will show sooner or later in the light.

I cannot write a typical review for this book. First, this particular book would actually spark a great bookclub discussion. The first question would have to be
"What would you do?" As much as it would be hard to even imagine, walking in on your boyfriend having sex with someone other than you in your bed, is bad enough. But what if that person that he was having sex with was a member of your family?

That is exactly what happened when Gia walked in her home after hours of being on her feet at work, and seeing the man she loved having sex with her niece, Anita.

Now fast forward years later...

Gia marries this same man and has a baby with him.

If you think thats where this story ends, you’re in for a rude awakening, because as you can see this is just the beginning of this story.

Before you think I gave too much information on the story, read the synopsis and you will see the same thing there.

Sorrows Mate by Lowan Anderson was an excellent story. It was an easy and quick read. It was also an emotional read as well. You are sure to feel for both Anita and yes, even Gia. As hard as it is to want to hate Gia, you don't. The reason I did not give this book a 5 star is because the layout of the book was put together poorly. There was a chapter in the book that should have been put near the beginning of the book but was thrown out of sequence that made for a confusing moment in reading the book. By the time I realized what happened with this huge oversight, I had already read most of the chapter. Also, the timeframe was very unclear because the story kept switching from past to present with no clear indication of which was which. Overall though this was a very good read and like I said before would make for a great bookclub discussion.

Sorrow's Mate was a very heart wrenching story. The story flowed and I felt the pain of each woman in this book. Gia was a woman with more than her share of sorrow and secrets. I definitely enjoyed this book, never knowing what to expect, but never disappointed.

This book took me on a journey into the lives of three very strong women who have all endured so much pain and loss you wonder how they made it through. Gia's love for her family, often blind, is never unwavering but the secrets she holds on to have very real consequences for her daughter and her niece. I loved how the author took you back through their journey to help you better understand their present. The pain and abuse they suffered seemed so real you just wanted to step in and help in any way you can. This book is well written and full of real life experiences. It was a great read and I highly recommend it.

Sorrow’s Mate was an excellent read. A very touching heart felt story. Gia was a woman that went through a ton of sorrows in her life. Life is not always easy, but Gia was able to make the best out of her life. She took the lemons and turned them into lemonade.

The book was a easy read, very informative, touched on a lot of subjects that the African American culture doesn't discuss. I don't want to give anything away but it's topics are such that men and women need to read.

Very good book. Sometimes the creativity was a little confusing jumping time frames. I wish the author had given the chapters some sort of title because the introduction of the daughter threw me for a loop. Overall it was a good read and captivating. I would read more from this author. The writing was very eloquent.
