1.0 out of 5 stars Broke when catching first small fish, buyer beware.
By Johnny Nui on February 16, 2019
The sellers page has no way to get a refund, so I thought I should just warn others before they waste money on this rod. I got this rod because I wanted to fish from a jet ski and a telescopic rod is easy to stow. I must say the rod looks nice and has a nice finish, but because of the stiffness, and lack of strength, I would say this rod is only good for fish under 1 pound.
After hooking in to the first ever fish on this rod, which was a small snook of albout 4lb, this rod broke after about 15 seconds of playing the fish. See the fish in the second photo, it's small! And you can see the tip lying there beside it.
The second segment is where it broke, and really if the sections were more flexible, it probably would handle a bigger fish, but it is too stiff and will not handle much weight for being so thin near the tip.
Third photo is zoomed in after I peeled away at the fibers to see if I could see anything suspicious, but no it just looks like regular laminate, and fairly nice job, just too stiff and weak.
I would have settled for a refund, but I guess they don't give refunds after 30 days, and there is no way on their amazon page to ask for a refund, there is just a link to amazon's return policy.

5.0 out of 5 stars Eyelets are weak!
By Anthony on July 15, 2018
Update, after I sanded down the end and drilled out the eyelet I was able to epoxy it back on.
I ended putting a dab of epoxy around each eyelet.
So this rod stays in my vehicle ,
The rod is light and compact, extends easily. The rail seat is flimsy and the eyelets are horrible.
The eyelet came off while I was railing in my lure that was stuck on a weed.
The Bag that it comes in is flimsy to say the least.
I also made a separate video on improving the the bag w Velcro and a few 1 inch nylon loops.
If you plan on taking this on a hike or leaving in your car for quick trip

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Quality Telescopic Rods
By lawdog on August 12, 2016
I can see why these rods are getting great reviews. I bought a 7.87' rod and I was so impressed with it, I purchased a 5.91' rod a day later. I was a bit worried about the quality of a telescopic rod, but these are fantastic graphite rods. The sections are loose until you pull them all the way out, so they give you a nice cap to hold the sections down when not in use. I bought both rods for ease of traveling and packing around, but I can see they'll become my go-to rods for most of the time. Comes with a so-so cover that that was unexpected and appreciated. Highly recommend.

1.0 out of 5 stars Since I can't give negative stars to cheap Chinesium.
By J Jackson on May 18, 2019
I bought this product in 2018, wasn't able to test it until today, so I'm well out of warranty.

The rod seemed good. Light weight, collapsible, something I could readily throw in a bug out bag. Of course nothing goes into, or stays, in the bag without testing.

My buddy called me up today wanting to go fishing, I had a reel and rod in need of testing. Sadly the reel (also by Sougayilang, and recommended to match this rod, it's the black and gold one), has four broken teeth on the main gear (from the factory), which my buddy discovered and is going to try to replace.

We ran over to Wally world where I picked up a Pflueger President spinning reel to replace the broken reel. This should have given me pause for thought, but testing must go on.

We overloaded the President with 10 lbs. test monofilament and headed to the pier.

After dealing with tangles, other people's kids, and more tangles I managed to get the hook in the water three times. Not five or six times, three times. Lost bait once, reeled in once when I thought I had a bite, and the last time when I did have a "bite."

The bite in question was about five pounds of seaweed.

Seaweed half-way to the pier and still fully in the water, I feel a change in the rod and hear a puffing crack sound. I looked up to see my rod bend to a 90 degree angle and then finish tearing itself apart. The result is as pictured.

As my friend cried and laughed at me, I pulled the President off the rod, put the rod in the garbage and packed up to go home.

I'll be looking for another telescoping rod, but it won't be from Sougayilang.

As it stands the main issue with the rod is a manufacturing defect. The carbon fiber has been treated like fiberglass rather than like carbon fiber. This makes it susceptible to shearing forces, which are largely what are encountered in fishing, rather than end force forces which the current layout of the rod is better suited to handle. Read this as: bendy rod bad, pokey rod good.
