12" cookable clay tagine is ideal for slow cooking at low temperatures on the stovetop (gas or electric). Cooking in clay greatly enhances the flavor and preserves more of the nutritional value of cooked foods. We enclose seasoning instructions and some recipes with each tagine.

I'm sad because it was a beautiful piece of pottery and I looked forward to cooking in it.
Unfortunately the first time she tried to use it it cracked almost immediately after starting cooking. I did follow the fairly involved seasoning instructions to the letter, and we used a diffuser, and the gas stove was set on the lowest setting. Nonetheless, the base cracked in half and sent food and pieces of Tagine everywhere.
The company did offer to send a replacement when we contacted them, but it freaked out my wife when it cracked so she really didn't want another one. Amazon refunded it.
In hindsight I might have gone for a costlier (less ornamental) tangine which would be less sensitive to high temps. This is an issue for me because of my glass cooktop. However, I have found my ways of working around this. I start my dish in a saucepan and then move it into the tangine for the duration of the cook time. I also tend to put it in the oven instead of slow cooking on my range though I have successfully used it on my range set on a very low heat (no diffuser as my cooktop warns against it).
The dishes I've created using this tangine have been spectacularly cooked and I am pleased with the performance of it. I followed the seasoning instructions found on the Le Souk webpage.
June 18, 2013: We continue to use the tagine from time to time. Last night my wife cooked lamb with oranges, figs and fennel. It was so outstanding I couldn't get over it. Buy one of these and use it with care, love and dedication. You will be astounded with the taste, aroma and experience!
We were cooking in the first tajine and all of the sudden we heard a pop and believe it or not FIRE! Because the oil and water dripped out, it caught fire. The tajine had split in half. Regardless of what happened with the first one, we decided to purchase a second one. Sadly the second one didn't last more than four months and it broke in half again while cooking.
This is a great tajine for taste and we absolutely loved how our food tasted. This was the main reason we decided to purchase a second one. We had purchased other tajines in the past online and none can compare to this one in taste. For taste 5 stars!!!
