Unfortunately, actually reading the book was like chewing cardboard. I couldn't get past the flat characters spouting artificial dialog and behaving in an unrealistic manner. I gave up on page 27.
I also have a minor gripe about the science. In 2167, Earth is a small part of a vast inter-GALACTIC, not interstellar, civilization. Does the author know the difference between a solar system and a galaxy? I have trouble believing an almost-destroyed Earth could develop interstellar travel that fast, much less become part of a GALACTIC civilization.
This may be a great book, if you're just interested in concept and plot. In the author's bio, he talks about his believable characters, but I don't see it. I'm definitely not planning on buying any more of his books.
I normally don't write reviews, but I'm writing this one because I'm so disappointed.
Now people live beyond a hundred in a technologically advanced society, and a scientist has created possibly the greatest breakthrough in history. With the cost of space travel exponential, Jiro Yamamoto has constructed a human teleporter that can take apart and reconstruct humans in another location, using death row inmates as test subjects.
When the machine is near perfection, Jiro is brutally killed, and inspector/military veteran, Burt Campbell, is put on the case to uncover his murderer and piece together all of Jiro's research. Following him with great interest is the military and Jiro's former lover, Penelope.
'Soul Cage' is a futuristic crime thriller with a paranormal touch that challenges where and just how the human soul fits into scientific achievement. This is a book that will appeal to science fiction fans who enjoy complex world building, realistic characters, and the thrill of uncovering a chilling mystery.
WHATEVER THE MIND OF MAN CAN CONCEIVE AND BELIEVE, IT CAN ACHIEVE.
This story will have you pulling for the good
guys all the way! An exciting novel - of just exactly what can go wrong - when control of unusual and powerful discoveries fall in to hands lacking moral values and sound judgment!
"What happens to the human soul when a person is disintegrated, killed, by a transporter in one location, and then duplicated in another location using a reservoir of particles?" That's the moral question of this intriguing plot.
Author David Booker has brilliantly written a novel filled with excitement, adventure, and a lot of WHAT IF!
I am pleased to review and recommend this book with a *****5 Star review!
