The book concentrated mainly on Jack’s and Janet’s second chances at live and how they fought for them . Hence, the suspense part was less prominent and definitely inferior to the romance part. Yes, the story line had its cheesy moments but the overall atmosphere and the outcome of the book was absolutely satisfactorily.
A must read for all I-Team fans AND others!
Jack formerly had a run-in with a sassy FBI agent, that Jack promptly threw off his land. A year later, that agent, Janet Killeen, is broken in body and soul, having taken a bullet protecting her charge, an I-Team reporter. She has been physically damaged by the bullet and emotionally devastated by the side effects. When she is stranded on the road past Cimarron, Jack finds her and rescues her. Wary, she is still a little standoffish until she begins to see the real Jack - charming, helpful, willing to go out of his way to make her comfortable. Hmmmm-there's a sexual attraction, too. Who'd have thought? Certainly not Jack, who was happily married until the day his wife died and never thought he'd find a woman so attractive again. His age is a factor - in his mind, not in Janet's. There's also a good but obvious subplot about someone harming one of Jack's prize horses. Nate and Megan make an appearance, too on the way to another HEA. Good one.
Soul Deep is the story of Jack - widowed for 7 years - a man in his prime, a hero for many, old in his own mind (63) but a man most of us would kill for. Janet is an FBI agent - wounded in the service, a smart independent woman who is blown away by this man that almost nurtures her back to life.
Pamela "always" puts a story within the lovestory - and this is no exception. There is a little suspense - but it all comes together beautifully.
If you have never read an I-team book you can still read this as a stand-alone, but why cheat yourself out of a great series? Go back to Extreme Exposure - the first I-team book and fall in love with Reece and Kara... and just take a journey you will never be sorry you took... Enjoy...
This story is set on a working ranch in Colorado. A woman FBI special agent, SA Janet Killeen is stranded in her car in a blizzard before she reaches her destination. She has recent external and internal injuries from a bullet that shattered her hip and her life. Rancher and widower Jack West, a brusk man with a tender heart rescues her from the snow and begins to help her rebuild her confidence and heal the internal scars that left Janet feeling like less than a woman. It's a second chance at a beautiful love for both of them.
The scenery is beautiful and I appreciated the detail included in the daily operations of running a ranch and the raising and breeding of horses.
I have rated almost every book from this author 5 stars because she simply deserves it and this tender story is one of her best.
