The paragraph formatting (no indentations) sometimes made it difficult for me to read, but that was a very minor point. There was a lot more conversation than exposition, which is a good thing. It exposes the characters without dumping a lot of external evaluations from the author.
Quilter did an excellent job crafting an engaging, witty, and entertaining narrative that managed to take these familiar tropes and make them feel new again.
Drake's character was a hoot, and I couldn't help but compare him to Disney's Aladdin throughout most of the story, what with his clever quips and very comedic entrance. His reunion with Vahn and the subsequent development of their estranged relationship was genuinely satisfying and great to read.
I do wish that the female characters had been a little more three-dimensional, but they certainly weren't bad characters.
Overall, this book was so fun and cinematic, it would make an excellent film. It will certainly read like on in your head!
This book is about the brothers Drake and Vahn and their struggle to win against Anti-Luck 169. Drake struggles to control his powers and Vahn wants to save the human kingdom, all while preventing billions of people from losing their lives. They reconnect and heal old wounds and I found both of their personalities to be compelling, multi-dimensional, and worth reading about! The only tiny downside is that the book could use a final round of editing, but even as it is, I would recommend this book to anyone with a taste for action and fantasy.
Plus the cover art is just awesome. How could I say no?
