I love soul eater its one of the greatest anime ever the ending sadly isnt cannon and this deserves a remake like brotherhood but the digital code for this is not activated so I cant keep a digital copy something I honestly didnt care about until I learned about it after I had already received the product so my hopes were high as thats super cool to have an online copy I can just watch wherever thats way better than just a blu ray but the digital code wont work and says it is not yet activated and when I looked up what to do in the situation it says contact the retailer but my retailer is amazon idk how to talk to amazon lol so I shall instead leave a review and blame funimation to feel better

These DVDs are region restricted to region 2, Europe I believe. However I have found that most of my players allow a change of region accessibility upto a maximum of 5 instances. So, I'm going to dedicate one of my players to region 2 and just keep it that way. Check to see if your DVD player is capable of this before buying. If not, just buy a cheap new one that is, and dedicate it to region 2.
The disks are legit, in good condition.
The content is enjoyable, but can get a little "mature " in some points, but in a comical way. I'd call the genre, fantasy action comedy.

I really like being able to sit down and zip through one episode after another; after streaming a handful of the episodes of this anime online, I immediately purchased the whole series and eagerly awaited its arrival in the mail!

The world is threatened by evil humans who consume human souls and the twisted creatures created from such consumption, Kishin. Lord Death himself founded the D.W.M.A (Death Weapon Meister Academy) in Death City to train young meisters (fighters) and their weapon partners (humans capable of transforming into a specific weapon) to hunt down and destroy Kishin before they cause too much destruction. The first three episodes introduce the three main meister/weapon pairs; Maka Albarn and her scythe Soul Eater Evans, Black Star and Tsubaki Nakatsukasa (who comes from a special family in which every member is a weapon; she herself can take several weapon forms), and Lord Death's own son Death the Kid and his twin pistols Patty and Liz Thompson.

The storyline starts off with every student's dream and goal; to turn their weapon into a legendary Death Scythe, a weapon capable of being wielded by Lord Death himself. Maka has big shoes to fill, because her mother turned her father into Lord Death's current Death Scythe, who is a true scythe at that.

Sounding too serious? Not even! While a lot of darker aspects such as who determines right versus wrong and the madness of the human mind are handled, every episode contains comic relief in one way or another. Ten minutes or so into the very first episode we get to meet Maka's rather promiscuous father (who flirts with just about every female in the series), and soon afterwards Soul accidentally dives headfirst into a bath with the busty, bubbly Blair. There is a bit of fan service sprinkled here and there as well, all tasteful and relating to the situation. I like that even in the darker episodes that keep you on the edge of your seat, there's always something sweet that comes along to make you laugh, weather it's Black Star's gigantic ego or Kid's OCD.

The plot, much to the chagrin of fans of the manga (I have yet to start reading, so I don't know too much) eventually abandons the idea of Death Scythes early in and instead focuses on the hunt for the witch Arachne (interesting bit, every witch in the series has an animal theme) and the deadly and just about all powerful Kishin, Asura. The manga is still ongoing, so a lot of people seem to be disappointed with the ending of the anime. I didn't think it was too awful myself, but I would like the rumors of a reboot the likes of FMA:B being in the works to be true! There are some bits I have heard about that are in the manga (the further exploration of becoming a Death Scythe, the battle on the Moon, Kid's Lines of Sanzu, etc.) that I would like to have learned more about or actually gotten to have seen. I'll just have to keep my hopes up!

And for any of you out there worrying about the voice acting, you can keep your fears at bay! Everybody's voice fits their character perfectly. There is also no worry about "Westernizing" anything in the series, as Death City is actually in Nevada and most of the characters are actually American. As for the quality of the Blu-Ray itself, it's absolutely fantastic! Apparently a lot of these recent "Complete Series" anime collections coming out aren't all the best quality-wise, but Soul Eater looks absolutely fantastic on my TV.

The only problem, literally the only problem, I have with this set is that rather than standard anime subtitles, which are yellow so they stand out on the animated background, these are white, and also very small, thusly making them hard to read when I want to hear the Japanese audio.

Trust me, if the first three episodes draw you in, don't even bother trying to watch more before deciding, go right out and buy this!

I bought the Yearbook Edition as a gift for my wife, who fell in love with Soul Eater years ago. This was one of several gifts I gave her for our anniversary, and she probably spent 15 minutes or more looking it over and enjoying the illustrations etc.

I was basically expecting a bluray box set with a couple of illustrations plus the sleeve/page style holders in lieu of a hard case, but they took the whole "yearbook" concept seriously when designing this. It's the size of a yearbook in terms of height/width, and contains an impressive number of illustrations that seem to largely be original (or at least from less commonly used sources) and perfectly honor the style of the show itself.

I was a little concerned about the use of in-page "sleeves" to hold the discs themselves, but they seem to have done a good job of making sure they're tight enough to be secure without making it too much of a fight to get them out. I'd have never trusted a DVD set to stay in good shape with this setup, but given the protective coating on Blurays I think it'll be just fine and it's perfect for the yearbook concept.

There are also several pages devoted to specific characters with cute little blurbs "written and signed by" the characters, which I thought was a nice touch. The print quality is excellent, and the pages are printed on a nice thick glossy paper that's very similar to the paper used in yearbooks, but perhaps a bit more tear resistant.

Kudos to Funimation for both the conception and production of this set. Provided your shelving of choice for anime has the height clearance for a yearbook-sized item like this, it will likely be one of the standout pride pieces on it.

Having reviewed Death Note, and Attack On Titan previously, it's time to review Soul Eater.
I should explain that the views expressed are those of a "Father of the 13 year old daughter anime fan", but I'll start off by saying my daughter loved it. Rated 15, but I saw nothing of any real concern for her age to see.
Having watched a large part of the series through with my daughter (English Dub - excellently done), I am certainly impressed with the value for money .... 51 episodes, 8 discs, 1189 mins approx. the DVD case states. Each of the 8 discs display a different character image label. A nice touch. So it's a 5/5 for physical package as a whole.
As for the anime itself, it's far more "cartoony" in style, than say Titan, and is certainly lighter in mood. As high in humour as it is in action at times, the story builds up through a series of quite different episodes. With many characters in the show, some are developed more than others, each revealing their own idiosyncrasies. Doubtless different viewers will have their own favourites.
Unlike one reviewer here, I did find myself developing an affinity with several of the characters, and surprisingly perhaps some of those most irritating earlier on ..... grew most on me as the story unfolded.
A bit patchy, a bit brilliant, a bit cheesy, a bit hilarious, a bit different .......in places it's Pokémon meets ....... David Lynch.(seriously, the homage is there)...... and importantly the end will not disappoint.
Soul Eater is actually quite good entertainment.
Recommended.

Gotta love this anime. It's fun, it's hilarious and it keeps your attention. Many would probably disagree, but in my opinion Soul Eater is awesome! It's 51 episodes long; I think it's not too bad! Although the manga did only end a few months ago, the anime finished in 2009, with no sign so far of returning. I did enjoy this anime thoroughly, my only concern was that I didn't care about any of the characters too much; it doesn't mean they were bad or boring characters, there were just waaaay too many main characters, but they did make them all unique and interesting. The show does slow down at some points; there were times where I didn't watch it for a few days, maybe a week. But at other times it did pick up, and if I remember correctly, I finished the last arc in a short amount of time! Other notable thing is the first Opening of the show. It is one of the best openings I have ever heard, it fits the show perfectly, and I couldn't stop listening to it! Overall, it's a great addition to your collection, and I didn't regret buying it!

I'm reviewing the medium in which the content comes in, not the actual series itself, please use a review site explicit to anime such as myanimelist or anilist, having bought this many years ago, it sits on a shelf never to be used; I have watched this series three times, and each time I re-watch it I opt for a Digital release for simplicity and access when out and about. The day of the DVD is dying. the dawn of online digital services has begun; it's more cost effective to 'rent' online than buy.

I would recommend this for nostalgic purposes, but would highly recommend just using a streaming service to watch it.

Watched this online first, then a couple of months later bought this. Quality is very good, amazing compared to online, it came quickly, and once you're past the first 5-ish episodes, which are incredibly kooky, it's an epic storyline with deep characters and the fate of the world in the balance. Wait until it's at a low price though, Amazon changes its prices regularly, so buy it when it's incredibly unmissable, especially for 51 episodes. Basically watch it for ages, then get it at its cheapest.

Wish they did more of Soul Eater, but it's nice they ended it when it was at its very, very best, unlike many other animated series that drag on for eternity. Soul Eater's ending is flawless. A must watch for everyone.
