The characters were... well, incredible. Mekaisto was dark and horrifying and scary as hell -- and at the same time so seductive I was wondering what the heck was wrong with me. Celina's single-mindedness irked me a few times -- but it made so much sense, and her character arc was all the more beautiful because of it.
The only issue I found was the pacing at a few moments -- a few transitions seemed a little jarring. But I was so enraptured by the story and characters I really didn't care.
I will say it probably deserves a warning for the horror, and the dynamic between Mekaisto and Celina. You're going to need to tap into your inner dark side for this one; it's not for the faint of heart.
The story is complex and intricate and you will gasp at the twist at the end. It's well worth reading and losing sleep over. GO READ IT.
Seems like an easy thing, a difficult choice, but an earnest desire. Little does she realize the world of intrigue and deception she steps into when she agrees to Kai's bargain.
First of all I will start off with saying that romance of any kind is not my usual genre. At one time I swore I'd rather burn at the stake than read one.
Then you come across a writer like Fréchette.
My Soul to Give offers a wonderfully intricate plot full of lies, half-truths, twists and surprise that will leave even the veteran readers of romance, horror and paranormal spinning. Celina is a non-standard heroine who starts off with a complete certainty of who she is even though she regrets her bargain almost immediately. As she begins to feel affection for the demon that will chain her soul for eternity she fights a very real and honest battle with her own mind and body to rationalize it. Kai makes a delightful, delicious male lead / villain that it's hard not to love a little even when we know he's an evil jerk at times.
I would also be remiss if I did not mention the author's style which draws the reader in bit, by loving bit, like a trail of sweet confections. To say her books are hard to put down is an understatement. You will be tempted to call in sick, to skip work, to rent a room in some far away den so that you won't be interrupted.
And there is not such thing as a good romance without wild passion and unadulterated abandon. Celina teases us again and again and when she finally gives in to her demon it is worth the way. If the average paranormal romance is steamy, this one could flay the skin off of a komodo dragon.
The middle does bog down a bit while the couple are feeling each other out, but beyond that it's a stunning read.
Come taste a world of darkness, desire and dreams unfurled.
Excited to see this debut novel from a promising new author.

This book has what I call the WOW factor: violence, sex, demons, betrayals, lies, secrets and major surprises. Of course, I must admit to reading it with all the lights on since there was some very graphic violence and some of them involved spiders, yuck.
Celina Leviet has been with her husband for seven years, five of them married. She lives in her dream house which her husband, Thomas, built for her and where she spends most of her time. Thomas is killed and she is shot and dying. She comes face to face with a demon who offers her the opportunity to live and avenge her husband’s death. The payment for the demon’s help is her life and soul.
Mekaisto is no ordinary demon; he is the demon feared by other demons and his thirst for violence knows no bounds. Kai will help her find and kill the one’s responsible for taking away the love of her life and she is willing to sacrifice her soul and life to do it. Unfortunately, while searching for the guilty people, she comes to find that Thomas was not the man she thought he was. He lied about his family and he lied about his business, a business that never existed. Despite feeling betrayed by him, she is still determined to find those responsible and make them suffer.
Celina’s journey is not without complications, she learns more about her parents who died in a car accident, she learns about her aunt who dragged her to church trying to save her soul. She also learns more about demons than she ever wanted to know and especially about Kai. She sees his evil up close when he saves her from his second in command Shiriki, who is experimenting on humans and trying to find out more about where the soul is. I won’t go into detail about what he does to these humans, but it is mind blowing.
Celina finds herself falling in love with Kai, who one minute is loving and the next a monster. She can’t help the fact that she loves two men, her dead husband and the demon she will owe her life and soul to. Celina also begins to show signs of evil and some of the things she sees would probably destroy a person’s mind, but she comes through it. Is Kai changing her into something like himself?
I was hooked from page one. The suspense and storyline just grew and grew with each page I read so I couldn’t put it down. I can’t wait for the next book in the series and highly recommend this one to anyone who loves dark suspense, thriller, mystery, and romance. It is not a book for the faint of heart.
