Gabi gets some new enemies and some new allies in this second book in the Silver Moon trilogy. The action, romance, and humor from the first book are all back in full-force, although I'd say this book steps the action up a notch! The new characters are all just as great as the old ones, and no one is exactly what they seem (except Kain, Kain is exactly what he seems: awesome). There's a lot of surprises in this book, both about Gabi and about Silver Moon, and even about Rafe.
A lot of times the second book in a trilogy drags, but this book definitely does not suffer from that. The pacing between the first book and this one is great, in fact! If you liked Sight Seer, definitely pick up the sequel. If you haven't read Sight Seer, go read that one, and then read this one!
While the first book was light and funny, this one was darker, and bad things kept happening to the characters. The characterizations are still strong, and Gabi still rocks, a strong girl and not a whiner, but the evil dudes are not very believable. For the second book in a row, one of the villains is more or less insane, which is not as fun for me as when the villain has a rational motivation. Neither Alexandra's parents nor the head of the order made compelling villains. There were a few villainous henchmen that were quite fun though.
The book also could use more world building. The order has a huge building in New York City, and an apparently unlimited shopping budget, but no apparent income.
Finally, there were a few too many coincidences (evil peeps just happen to come by at the right second when someone is unconscious) and the characters were way too forgiving of other people's evil acts. The main character and her friends are great, but the plot didn't completely work for me.
And there are plenty of new characters you will LOVE to pieces!!
After reading the first one, I thought I had a good idea of where the series might go. Nope! This book totally surprised me, and there were more than a few times when twists and turns made my jaw drop, but they totally worked, way better than what I was guessing would happen.
I'm looking forward to reading the second book.
I probably should stop because I don't know how to review this one without fangirling and spoiling it too much .
So, the 2nd book in the Silver Moon Saga, and it was so good! It did lull in the middle a bit for me, but the beginning was REALLY strong and from 80% until the end I was GLUED TO THE PAGES and couldn't stop reading. Gabi was full on sassy-pants mode the ENTIRE book and I loved it. Giorgio's dialogue is always so fun. It's super real and Gabi sounds like a real teen. I loved that. Rafe was also super swoony and the new characters were really fun. Nina drove me nuts, but Philip was really sweet and Kain was... yeah, Kain XD I'm not sure what I think about him. And OMFG I WANT TO THROW MRS. CHEN OFF A ROOFTOP. I'm pretty sure she's even more evil than Voldemort. jfc.
So this book takes place around Christmas and Gabi and Rafe are having a super romantic date and then they get into a fight and I was like NO MY HEART. I can't take them being angry at each other! Then Evan is a total jerk and does something awful and then Gabi is kidnapped and finds herself in the Silver Moon HQ where she meets a bunch of mentally unstable hunters and finds out more about her ability to heal. I really liked A LOT of the part with her on her own. I mean she had her new friends, but Gabi is so strong and I loved seeing her rely on herself. I mean, don't get me wrong, I love her and Rafe (they make such a good team) but I'm glad that Gabi can stand on her own two feet. As I said tho, the middle did lag a bit so I was very glad when they finally decided to GTFO of HQ and the action picked back up again.
I didn't see half of the things that came in the last quarter of the book. And I liked that. Sometimes I though I had things figured out but nope, they actually didn't pan out the way I expected. Which is good because there were a few things in the first book that I thought were a bit too predictable. And the end, THAT WAS NOT A FAIR WAY TO END IT.
I can't wait for the last book now because I really have no idea what's going to happen now that things took a twist that I didn't see.
