Trinity has been a thriving city full of Myres, legendary creatures that blend with humans on a daily basis. They walk among them, but also have their own world that works in unison so they can all live in harmony.
Daphne is a soul reaver, she just doesn’t know it yet. Living in the human world, all she knows is that she’s different. When she comes into her own, everything changes, and not just for her but for the entire underworld that she finds herself a part of. The cast of characters is well fleshed out here and they all have their own goals and lives. It was fascinating to delve into this new world and...
Oh My God, we cannot forget about Mistrael. I’m a romance reader at heart and boy, did he ever do it for me. He and Daphne go from mortal enemies to something so much more. It was romance but not necessarily a romance novel.
Love!! Cannot wait for the sequel!!
Overall an interesting read.
Daphne is all alone in the world, she doesn’t know where she came from only that she’s been left with a frightening hunger for other people’s emotions and once a year she has to take someone’s soul in order to stay alive. One night when she’s looking for the darkest of souls to take she comes across one so dark but as she tries to take it she realises he is more than she first thought. Daphne is then thrust into a Supernatural world she knew nothing about, along the way she finds friendships she’s never had before and danger waiting around every corner.
This book was amazing, the characters were so well written, I was pulled in from the first page, this book will leave you desperate for more.
I voluntarily reviewed an advanced copy of this book.
When I first saw the description of this I was intrigued, and I had the right to be. I had never heard of a soul reaver before in fantasy before. So I had to find out what Daphne was all about. You see, she calls herself a monster because she has to feed off of the feelings of others and then once a year consume a soul for her to stay alive.
BUT, she only takes negative feelings and souls with layers of darkness to their very depths. For that reason, I don't find her a monster. I find her gentle and kind. Just a beautiful being. She just doesn't see it.
::::WARNING:::: There are triggers in here for self harm. Daphne harms herself because the souls inside her ARE NOT GOOD. THEY ARE DARK.
Upon looking for the soul to consume she stumbles into a new world that is complicated and dangerous. Where it seems every being in it wants her dead even though she belongs in this new world as a reaver. She doesn't know whom to trust.
There are so many twists and surprises in this book that I was amazed. You MUST keep your eyes open at all times so you don't miss anything. Someone is always scheming or something else is happening.
So much action happens in this book that it is almost unbelievable how small of a book this is. I just can't fathom how Victoria came up with all of this and fit it all in here. I really don't understand how such literary genius didn't come across my radar sooner. This will be a forever favorite of mine.
Daphne is really powerful and the way her powers are shown and grow throughout the book are exponential. The way her powers are described is with intricate detail and is really beautiful how she sees people's souls and feelings. I would even go as far to say that it is breathtaking.
Insert SWOON here.
Daphne finds true love with him and I couldn't be happier. They have been through so much together in this book and I know they will in the next one too. I couldn't have picked a better match because this pair is so beautiful together it actually hurts to read about it. Of all the things that has happened to them they deserve some joy in their lives.
Alright, so I knew before I started this book that it had a cliffhanger ending, but d***. With Mist just "in the wind", it can't end like that. With all that happened right before the ending. It was like there was an information dump on me, then BOOM the book ended. I can't handle and process that all at once!! Give a girl a break! Plus I have to wait till book 2 is out to find out about my Mist.
I felt this book down to my heart, soul and back and it was crushing. I don't know what I am going to do with myself. So you better read this!!!
I guess it is fitting that the next book I am reading is called Broken House. I am feeling a little broken after that.
When reading the blurb about this book I wasn't very interested in it. However, I took the chance and read it. I am so glad I did! This book has everything you would want in one book. If you want action, then the fierce fighting scenes will be your favorite part. Want romance? Well with two gorgeous men both vying for one girl you get romance. If you like fantasy then the witches, shadows, harpies, demons, shapeshifters and every other traditional creature in this book will excite you. If you like humor then you will LOVE Kate. My favorite part of this whole book was Kate. She isn't the main character but is a huge part of this book. I love her sarcastic attitude and her fierce side. The book does end in a cliffhanger and it just kills me not to be able to know what happened. So, if you are unsure if this book is for you then just try it. You may be pleasantly surprised like I was!
