Hank Mobley, along with his "sidemen" of Art Blakey on drums, Wynton Kelly on piano and Paul Chambers on bass, make every song on here swing and cook and sound so fresh, it's hard to believe this was recorded in 1960. I really like to play this when I'm ready to kick back and relax as this really sets the mood. If you're of the same opinion that its hard to go wrong with purchasing any mainstream jazz album recorded between the mid 50's and mid 60's, then this is one of the best around and I would urge you to add this to your collection, it doesn't get much better than this.

This is one of the best Hank Mobley sets. I listen to it early and often. It was purchased because it was on sale at the time. If you like jazz from this era (late '50s/early 60's), purchase this one as soon as possible!!!

This little album is a total blast. I'm fairly new to Jazz, so I hadn't ever heard of Hank Mobley. Some reviewers point out that he's not really a "Star" player, but I agree with others that say he's underrated. Mobley's saxophone is spot on with every note--not stratospheric like Coltrane or atmospheric like Getz--but totally delightful nonetheless. Combine him with Wynton Kelly on piano and you've got Gold. Kelly's piano skills sometimes make me laugh with sheer joy; he's got all the restraint of a Basie but combines it with more of his own bluesy quick improvisation to make the piano solos really swing. Then of course you've got great work by Chambers (bass) and Blakey (drums). The whole album ranges from the upbeat to the mellow. From the syncopated swinging of "Remember," to the optimism of "This I Dig of You," you'll love this album for years to come. Take it from the Neophyte: buy this album!
