From the Inside Flap
Draw Strength from the True Source
When life overwhelms us and we feel weak and defeated, it?s easy to forget that God doesn?t expect us to have strength on our own. He gives us an armor to protect us and help us win the battles of the day.
Soul Strength is a guide to the power of God. Before the apostle Paul wrote to the Ephesians about the armor of God, Joshua and the Israelites were asked to move to a place of strength and freedom. Here lie the splendid similarities between the story of Joshua and God?s armor: Whatever we need to fight and win the battle is already available to us.
Through an exploration of the sixth chapter of Ephesians and the life Joshua, Pam Lau provides a resource for finding strength in God. Designed for study by one or many, this Fisherman Resource includes a leader?s guide, interactive questions, author reflections, and creative literary study to provide guidance for overcoming weakness and strengthening the soul. --This text refers to an out of print or unavailable edition of this title.

Having said that, the excerpts she puts at the end of each chapter, from other author's, is very frustrating. I'm a voracious reader, but even with that, I didn't care for those excerpts. For me, they hindered what I was processing from the Joshua passages, rather than enhanced. They were also disruptive to the flow of Ms. Lau's writing. Also, unless you are an avid reader (which only about 20% of my bible study participants are), those excerpts are just not well understood and seem quite out of place with the rest of the study. I understood how she tied them in, but I don't think many of my students would. So, for that reason, I won't be leading this book and why I couldn't give it 5 stars.
However, Ms. Lau has another book, A Friend In Me (I believe it came out this year, 2015) that is EXCELLENT and I'm praying about whether to lead this one as a bible study! Our church is probably 50% over the age of 50 and so many older women don't know how to relate to the younger ones and the younger ones want, so desperately, to have spiritual mentors. This book was just excellent in addressing these issues and being a road map to bring women together. I highly recommend this book.
