#1 in Paranormal Suspense
From the Author
The Soul Summoner is a gripping urban fantasy and paranormal suspense novel that is set in my hometown of Asheville, North Carolina. It is as grounded in reality as a paranormal novel can be, which keeps the characters both relatable and intriguing. It has edge-of-your-seat action and suspense as well as a juicy love triangle that will make you sweat and swoon. The Soul Summoner is the first book in the series.

So fast forward:
Ten some years later. Sloan is still talking a load of bs about Shannon. Phycology 101 : This screams insecurity on the Sloan’s part. It’s not a good look to put down other women. As a matter of fact, I had more respect for Shannon for not saying anything back. Ten years has gone by. Something is not right if you can’t move on.
But that’s not it. Sloan (main character) likes Shannon’s boyfriend Nate. But this Warren shows up and she is head over heels for him. instead Sloan tosses Nate aside while constantly berating him about dating Shannon. But then good ol Nate takes care of Sloan (because Warren her boyfriend asked him too) because she was seriously ill. Nate slept next to her while she was ill. (it wasn’t like he was naked in bed with her or pawing at her while she lay ill) But somehow Sloan thought it would be a great idea to tell Warren Nate slept in her bed. I get the whole have two guys fight over a woman thing can be exciting. But when the woman orchestrates the fight, to get two men jealous, then how do I the reader believe the love is even real? It was forced. The heroine is controlling the outcome. There are ways to have two guys fight over a woman without the woman orchestrating the fight. I just found it hard to be on the heroines side because she played a lot of games.
So. On to the cheating. The detective may have only kissed her and made suggestive comments a few times, but when you already have a girlfriend that’s called cheating. They were both way too touchie feelie. She didn’t discourage any of it unless it was to irritate him, which makes her a cheat too. And why do the friends and family not have a problem with this? Are they all amoral?
As for the other guy, why doesn’t either of them comprehend that what happens when they’re apart isn’t normal? I’d be worried enough to stay away til it’s figured out.
There were a lot of poorly written phrases in this. Like this one: How does a person point with a frown?
This story started interesting enough that I had hope. Unfortunately, the author seemed to give up trying before the end and it got really ridiculous. I’m deleting this disappointment from my account.
She was constantly flirting with Nathan, kind of getting mad that he has a gf just because she has a "thing" for him, even though she barely knew him, and giving him nonstop crap just for who the gf, over something that happened 10 years ago. Also the bf kisses Sloan and constantly touches her, and invites her over at any time of the day, all while still with his gf, and if anything, Sloan encourages it. But then she meets Warren and REALLY likes him after only a day if knowing him, and then pretty much string Nathan along. I know if there were people like this IRL, I would NOT want to know them, or be friends, or in a relationship with.
I thought the premise of the book was good and it became better when her opposite was brought in later in the book.
The writing was well done and drew me into the story quickly.
However, I I like my heroines to be more upright, even if confused, scared, or in a panic. I was disappointed in this as she behaved in a mean and snarky manner to an old high school rival.
She is attracted to two different men. Fine, but be honest and don't interact with both, especially if one has a current boyfriend. He didn't make honest choices, either. That rubbed me the wrong way. These aren't high school kids! They are young adults.
Sound naive? Maybe, but in my reading, I want heroes and heroines to be a head above others in the book, and set a better example. This dropped my rating down. Otherwise, it was a good read, just disappointing in this respect.

So that was the part that spoiled it for me. That and Sloan being able to leave her job for quite long periods. That didn't quite stack up for me. And the CONSTANT beer drinking felt off. May just be me (I live in the UK) but it seemed excessive. Although having never written a novel I'm not sure how easy it is to keep track of all the nitty gritty of what you've written so far.
By rating it 3.5 I'd say those negatives were mostly evened out by the book being a decent, if light read. And as I'd picked this one up for free I really can't complain too much. How much I'd pay for the rest of the series...hard to say. But I've def read worse.
It is a truly enspired idea for a novel and you wouldn't believe how happy I am that this is not a stand alone and that it is just the first in the series, which I definitely need to get by the way.
So the story is about Sloan who is gifted with certain abilities that she has no idea where they have come from, surprisingly considering what she daily deals with is very well rounded and copes really well with this with virtually nobody knowing, then enters Nathan who is a new Detective who asks for her help. Nathan is also haunted by his past and it has made him the strong and determined character that he is but in a few days he turns Sloan's life upside down... so I know what you are thinking.....they are gonna get together....... I am not going to say anymore about the storyline as it will ruin way too much and trust me, you want the twists and turns, the action and the adventure, the surprises and laughs that this author is able to deliver in such a flawless fashion.
I am so taken by the writing of this author, she draws you into her world and trust me when I say you never want to leave. If you are looking for a unique paranormal romance where you cant stop turning the pages and you literally do not know what is going to happen next then this will draw you in, hook, line and sinker!!!! Seriously go and get this novel....I cannot stress this enough!!!!!
I doubt I will continue with the series, though it would be marginally interesting to see where these stories went but, I suspect they won't go very far.
If you're going to go fantasy/other-worldly then go the whole hog and be creative - this book straddled the border and was neither 'summat nor nowt' as they say in my home County of Yorkshire!
I literally read it straight through in one long session - no breaks or snacks, just reading.
I loved the storyline, the heroine had me hooked from the get go, the other characters began to be like my own friends, plus nothing turned out how I thought it was going to. What more can you ask for?
I will definitely be reading the other books in the series and can't wait to see where the story goes next!
This book is too good to give away any more spoilers, but I can promise you that this story will keep you at the edge of your seat while you continue to turn the pages until an unexpected ending gets you craving for the sequel. Just as with all of Elicia's books, there are some lessons to be learned about friendship, loyalty and love and don't forget to keep food and drink supplies near by because you won't be able to put the book down. Five stars - no doubt - and I am already looking forward to the next installment
This is one of the fascinating series that I have read. It has such an engaging plot and twists that i couldn't put my Kindle down. When I finished reading this one, I went on to read the second and third books right away. I'm at the point where I'm eagerly waiting for Book 4 to be released.
I loved this, it was evenly paced and the characters and dialogue first class.
Loved the banter between the main four characters.
Very easy and enjoyable read despite the subject matter.
