Riley, the heroine, is refreshing. Her sense of humor made me smile a lot. Her flaws made me irritated and she’s very… alive in my head.
Leander. Ah, sweet loving Leander. If I compare to him to other male love interest, He’s not a jaw dropping guy, but he grows on you and before you know it you're crushing on him and can't get him off your mind. ****Spoiler Alert: I was disappointed and annoyed about the whole loving-the-ex thing as the reason not to kiss, I was grinning from ear to ear when he changed his mind.****
Cassie is adorable.
My favorite, however, is Diane. I like her sharp tongue and her sweet and spicy personality. Yes, like a mischievous little sister you can’t help but love.
My second favorite is Craig. He captured my heart after saying this:
“Stop it. Ever since you’ve become an Angel, you’ve had this crazy idea that the entire world revolves around you, and that you’re responsible for everything. I’m sick and tired of it. It’s not your fault that this happened to Stacey.”
I was nodding so much when I “heard” him say that. Riley was getting on my nerve at that point, and I just want to slap her.
My least favorite is Katie. Not at first, but after the whole thing was (predictably) revealed. I dislike how she behaved after the truth was uncovered. I understand if she's sad about the whole thing but to have contempt and disgust toward Riley the day after the incident is just too much. ****Spoiler Alert: Doesn't matter how much you love a guy if he tries to kill your friend, a good friend should be at less be 50% on her friend’s side. She comes out 100% on the guys side.**** I hate that. And then she somehow just reverted to Riley side without warning, this made me feel like I miss something.
To the story, it’s no big deal but I feel Leander repeats his explanation to Riley a bit too much, that or Riley asked for it a lot. Rolling their eyes, Riley along with other character does a little too much.
The ending was a bit confusing, no, not confusing that it doesn't make sense, it did. But I'm torn between cliffhanger and HFN because it's definitely not a HEA, yet not a cliffhanger or HFN either.
Anyway, all in all, I like how the story doesn't only focused on romance even if it’s a big part of the story, but I wish that their relationship didn't end that way.
But this is truly a great read. And though I'm only rating it four, not a shining five stars, I'll be happy to read the second book when I get the chance as I’m very much intrigue of Riley’s father, the man who gave me a pleasant warm feeling when Riley got her necklace. I want to “meet” him too and hear his side of the story, even if I have an idea of who he might be.
I'll admit, I was a little saddened by the direction it took near the end, but that's to lure us into the next book. I get it. Still...
Content warning: Clean.
This book was a lot of fun, I enjoyed getting to know Riley and her friends. She acts exactly how a normal person would act finding out their not human. She's trying to juggle all these emotions and Leander doesn't help. She has a crush on him but it's really hot and cold. The mystery of why Myron is working for Seraphyn and what she wants with Riley and these young girls souls isn't explained so i'm assuming more information will appear in the next book. I love how the book doesn't have a cliffhanger ending but it does leave questions unanswered for the next book. Michelle and Katie seems a little bitchy to me. We don't get to learn a lot about them so it's hard for me as the reader to understand why Riley is friend's with them when they are so different. Craig is a hoot but i'd love to learn more about him as well. Gran Herbie and Riley's little sister Cass were fun characters that would also be fun to see more of in future books. This book seemed to be pretty Riley/Leander centric. I'll be excited to see if Riley really follows through and tries to go save those girls souls down in hell. A great start to a new series.
