wow! this tape really shocked me. i didn't buy it when it first came out, because i thought it was going to be a typical tired r&b tape. but i listened to it at a friend's house, then i went right out & bought it. kelly should be crowned the next queen of r&b. she has one of the most beautiful voices ever. there isn't a dissapointing song on the whole album. the song that really takes this album to the next level is "take me to a dream", which is one of the best love songs i ever heard. the other songs that caught my attention are "friend of mine", "don't say goodbye", "you complete me", & "soul of a woman". if you like mariah, faith, or whitney, you'll definately like kelly. keep doin what your doin kelly.

while record labels have made much of kelly price's vuluptuous figure, they'd do better to shut their eyes (and their mouths) and just listen. it seems that, lately, every female that releases an album is touted as the next great diva, but few of them have the lungs to back up the advance praise. furthermore, while price's album boasts its fair share of torch songs, she doesn't come off the least bit victimized; rather, she exudes an elegance that is far too often missing from today's artists. not only is price's album an exposé on the soul of a woman, but it also loosely follows a romantic narrative. from the betrayal of "friend of mine" to the attempted reconciliation of "soul of a woman" to the confrontation of "friend of mine (remix)", price tells a story with which listeners are sure to identify. also a talented songwriter and producer, price can count among her competition everybody from former employer mariah carey to andrea martin, knowing that she's got what it takes to hold her own.

..Track-by-Track review..

1- Don't Go Away (interlude) - Very, very good interlude with forceful vocal power. Pining for a lover in a skit. 4.5*

2- Friend Of Mine - The original and better version of the song. Not that the remix is bad (it isn't), but Kelly gets to REALLY sing in this version. 5*

3- Secret Love - A cute song about having devotion for one man but not really being able to tell anyone about it. 4.5*

4- Don't Say Goodbye - The vocal layers are nice in this song but I don't get much out of it. Filler. 3.5*

5- Kiss Test - This song is great! I love how sensual it is. One of my faves. 5*

6- Soul Of A Woman - A nice tribute to hurt women and how to get them back to being themselves again. 4*

7- You Complete Me - Before Keyshia Cole's R&B hit there was this song. Featuring Daron from 112, this is an R&B song where you can bond with your soul mate. 4*

8- Soul Of A Woman (interlude) - Funny interlude. Kelly is PRICELESS here (pun unintended). 4*

9- Her - Love this track. Kinda feel like this is my song to this guy that I almost had. Perfection and my fave on the album. *5*

10- Your Love - Feat. Lil' Cease this track is pretty fun. It's not extraordinary, but it's a decent party track and passes the time just fine. 4*

11 - Take Me To A Dream - Quite similar to "The Lullaby" from her sophomore effort, Kelly is in pain without a lover so she tries to sleep it away. 5*

12 - Lord Of All - I don't quite mind religious songs but this isn't a favorite. I do love the ending vocal arrangement though because it's cute. 4*

13 - Friend Of Mine (remix) - A re-do of the original which has a different feel. Features R.

I remember this album when I was in the 6th grade. This woman can really sing. This is an extraordinary, primarily self-composed album. This album delves deep into the collective heart, soul and mindset of the female gender, while leaving much of the feminine mystique intact. Her pure soul voice is an emotional cauldron, boiling over with innovative power and primal passion. Every word, note and nuance of this album are delivered with attention to quality and detail as well as to entertainment aesthetics. A serious listen leaves no doubt that she is a brilliant singer and songwriter, whose inspired images and full tilt performances paint poignant portraits of love's many sides. This album has been certified Platinum. Remember, this was 1998-1999.

This cd from Kelly price is tight. The tight harmonies, beats and soulful singing will kepp u humming and pressing rewind all day. A lot of singers are starting to come out from the background who were either doing back up or producing like....(Deborah Cox-(Celine Dion)),(Kelly P-(Mariah)), etc.. To me her best cut I ever heard her sing besides "friend of mine"...(and her most soulful) is the song she did on the "life" soundtrack. If you haven't heard it...it's worth getting just for that song.
I heard she should be coming out with another one soon...If so ......I'll be the first to get it.
Don't hesitate on getting this...If you want a true sample of 90's soul...Check out Kelly Price!

i was definetly not suprised, by the content on the album entitled Soul of A Woman by Kelly Price, because i knew that kelly was an excellent singer. i love this album so much, kelly is a beautiful & talented young lady and the album shows it. i love every song, and every second of the album. my favorite song is "take me to a dream", but i also really like "kiss test", "you compelet me" (featuring 112's Daron Jones), "soul of a woman", "your love" (featuring Lil' Cease), "lord of all", and "friend of mine" [remix] (featuring Mr. Biggs & R. Kelly). i can't wait for kelly price's second album to come out, if she decides to make one. i never heard an album this good, except for my favorite album of all time Keep the Faith by Faith Evans, & Unleash the Dragon by Sisqo. good luck in the future kelly, we are all ruting you on.
