Editorial Reviews

Recorded live at the Love Fellowship Tabernacle in Bensalem, PA, Souled Out is a classic Hezekiah Walker & LFC recording full of energy and praise. Produced entirely by multiple Stellar Award winning producer Donald Lawrence, this album covers the entire spectrum of the Gospel music experience, from high energy anthems to soul-stirring ballads of praise to the Lord. The album features guest appearances from Shawn McLemore 'It Shall Come to Pass' and Ricardo Sanchez on the uplifting track 'Moving Forward'.

I have listened to this entire album several times and I absolutely LOVE IT! Choirs all over the world will be singing these songs very soon. I don't know what's not to like, and personally I was very surprised reading the first 4 reviewers. Complaining about the lack of modulations is kinda petty when there are several inversions in the songs on this album. I must say, Pastor Hezekiah has more ministering songs than I can remember on this album.

There are really no songs that are just "churchy", and all of them seem to minister to the Spirit very well. I am in love with "Moving Forward" - a song I think is more suited for a Praise Team. I heard a praise team in B-more minister this about 3 months ago, and Tye Tribbett simply ROCKED it when he added adlibs at the end. Alot of people are gonna sleep on this song... "You're All I Need" is such a beautiful song and has an impeccable flow to it.

"Souled Out", "All Of My Help", "O Give Thanks", and "Keep On Moving On" are going to be choir director favorites and will probably be the first songs to be sung by local choirs. Jules Bartholomew's "God Favored Me" is a truly unflawed song and I think one of albums best! Lastly I can't figure out the point in putting "It Shall Come To Pass" on this album when the same song was on "Live In London"?!?!?

Overall, I can't find any flaws with the album, it is vintage Hezekiah Walker and choir/music lovers will absolutely love it. You can put this CD in your deck or iPod and just jam all the way through. Great job on this album Pastor Hezekiah...I love it!

I have been a fan of Hezekiah Walker for many years and was in love with the last album 20/85 the experience. I don't really understand the first couple of reviews either because people were saying the same thing about 20/85 when it was released and it still did very well."Souled out" and "God favored me" are my two favorites that i listen to the most, of course loving Marvin sapp to i would have like to hear him and Hez sing a little more. This album is a little different for hez because there are a few more ballads and worship songs. What anyone needs to understand before writing a review is that gospel music is constantly changing and just like everyone else hez had to change a little bit.Hezekiah Walker and Ricky Dillard are the only ones really keeping choir music alive so i totally understand the concept of the album. One thing you cannot doubt about hez is that he still makes songs the make you get up and dance but over the last few years he's deliver some songs that grab your attention like " I need you to survive" "faithful is our God" and "Grateful" won five stellar awards recently should have got a grammy

I was totally impressed with Hezekiah's CD. Usually, the songs concentrate on his awesome musicians. This CD concentrates on his beautiful choir and the love of the lord. I am very happy with this purchase.

Apparently, some folks were "a little disappointed" with this project. A few Amazon reviewers felt the album was lacking. However, now that I own it, I can't figure out what they found so disappointing.

True, there are no stand out vocal performances and the revisiting of the Hez classic, "It shall come to pass", without Monique was boring (such a powerful song back in 97, oh well...). But, overall, this project is definitely vintage Hezekiah. I'd recommend any fan to add this one to their library right away! Not only is the production high quality (as expected from any Verity/Zomba "big budget" act i.e. Smallwood, Sapp, Hammond), but also the choir skill level is high which is not always a "given" with choir artists. They were obviously well rehearsed. I didn't hear a bunch of digital "clean up" from missed cues or blending to create a big sound. The harmonies sound genuine. The material was well chosen; meaningful: no fluff (fluff = songs that aren't scripturally relevant and don't even make sense but made the recording because of the hook or influence of a popular writer).

I think the reason some were disappointed is; their expectations were just too high. And who can blame them? You've got the country's most recognized choir (outside of Mississippi Mass), possibly the worlds most "famous" gospel music artist (outside of Kirk), and easily the worlds most renowned gospel music producer (whose resume far exceeds that of JMoss). How can you not over-anticipate the outcome? But, to appreciate this project you've really got to wipe Hez a clean slat. Forget 20/85; forget that D. Lawrence is behind the board and approach the project with fresh ears.
