Soulless is a fast-paced, paranormal, romantic adventure which will keep readers turning pages. The style of writing is very descriptive and works well for the Victorian setting. There's a plot twist near the end, which is a compelling set up for the next book in the series. Interesting characters and a gripping plot make this an excellent read for those who enjoy paranormal/romance/adventure books.
I love the unique story that Crystal Collier created with Passionate and Soulless. Passionates are ghastly as children to protect them from humanity. Then on their 16th birthday they become stunning creatures and are given amazing powers. The Soulless were once Passionate but were turned into zombie-like beings that are always hungry and come out in force during moonless nights.
I adored the first book in this series, Moonless. Right from the beginning of book one, you’re promised a dark mystery. There’s also heart-pounding romance that had me swooning. I devoured this book and wanted more immediately.
With Soulless, Alexia and Kiren want to get married but their wedding day doesn’t happen when and how they want it to when the Soulless become wedding crashers. Throughout this book Alexia learns how to use her power to control time, and it was nice seeing her wield it and become more powerful. The times when she went back in time were very well written and intriguing.
There’s a ton of suspense in this story, so much, in fact, that I had a hard time from stopping my jaw from unhinging. The ending promises a great third book, Timeless. I sure hope it has a happy ending, though. Crystal, hint, hint. ;)
The horrors posed by the shadowy monsters continue to mount, and the Passionates face ever-increasing dangers. Is their race doomed to extinction? What will become of the world? Is it possible for Alexia, the Maiden of Time, to use her newly-discovered, but burgeoning powers to save herself, the ones she loves, and prevent the Soulless from ever coming into being? How far back in time can she safely travel to make those changes? And if she goes, can she ever return?
Alas, we're gonna have to wait until the next book in this series to find the answers to those burning questions. So, hurry up, dear Ms. Collier. Tick-tock. We're waiting...
I'd give this one four to four and a half stars.
