Wow, Anne B Cole knows how to write suspense. Drama and tension mount as the novel progresses. The cabin scenes are gripping and by far my favourite part of the book. Once you hit the cabin scenes, don't think you'll be able to put the book down and go to sleep, no chance of that happening. Like book one, Souls Estranged is a truly original, great read.
Sam and Gretta are back from their time travel adventure from Souls Entwined. Sam remembers everything about their trip, but Gretta remembers very little. Upon their return, Gretta realizes those she loves, including Sam, will never be safe from the curse of her families ring. She runs off to protect everyone, but Sam vows to track her down and bring her back. Unbeknownst to Gretta, a serial killer has targeted her for his next victim.
Anne B. Cole weaves a tale of suspense and romance. I love the relationship between Sam and Gretta. I like the mystery of the cursed ring and the suspense of the cabin in the woods. I thoroughly enjoyed the time travel aspect from the first book, but truly enjoyed Sam and Gretta staying in the present in this book. The book is riveting and promises to keep you up all night reading it. I am anxiously waiting for the third book in this wonderful series.
At first I was chomping at the bit because Gretta didn’t remember all they had gone through together, much like Christopher Reeve’s character at the beginning of SOMEWHERE IN TIME. But that dang cursed heirloom ring brings trouble galore, and Gretta has enough flashes from the past to realize she needs to escape and take the bad luck with her.
This is where the book totally threw me for a loop. I’m a fan of romantic suspense, and suddenly this book totally distinguishes itself from the first in the series when a freaking serial killer turns up in the place Gretta has run! I can’t give away much more, but I can guarantee you an exciting, fresh read. Even if you didn’t read Book 1 in the series, you will totally be sucked in by the fast-paced writing and character development. My hat is off to Miss Cole for again taking me on an incredible adventure.
I was provided a copy of this novel in return in exchange for an unbiased review.
"Souls Estranged" picked up where "Souls Entwined" left off. Gretta and Sam are back from their time travel journey but their adventure is far from over. Gretta leaves, haunted by the few memories she has, the many holes in her memories and the decision that it's only by leaving she can keep Sam and her loved ones safe.
Through Gretta's adventures, we are introduced to new characters, both likeable and not so much, and we're reacquainted with familiar ones. We rekindle the lovers Anya and Lorenzo, cheer for ancestors Roxanna and Katarina and growl at the evil pirate Kadir, all from "Souls Entwined".
There are gut-wrenching moments as Gretta and Sam struggle to find happiness beneath the curse of Gretta's ring and pulse-pounding pages as Gretta battles constant danger. The action changes from character to character, but seldom stops. I kept wanting to turn the page to see what happened next.
I can't hardly wait for the third book in the series!
Souls Entwined has quite a different feel to it that book #1, mostly because Sam and Gretta don't time travel. But we do see Roxana and Katarina doing some soul entwining.
The suspense really gets moving when Gretta remembers the curse on her ring and runs away. I do love Sam the most of all the characters, he's fiercely loyal and fights with all his might to be with Gretta, which is something he had in common with Lorenzo that really shines in this book.
I think the only thing that really jarred me was when Roxana and Katarina entwined with random people. It made sense why they did, but I really just wanted Sam and Gretta, especially with how things were left with Gretta.
I thoroughly enjoyed continuing this series, and eagerly await the next book. It's a clean read, and well plotted out.
