Chances are we died more times in this game than in all other games of 2011 put together. And for what? For the sole purpose of offering you guidance. We died so that you don't have to. But you're still going to die.

If ever a game needed a great guide, it's Dark Souls. It's rare for a modern game to be designed so meticulously to enrage and engulf its players in a world that doesn't offer even the most basic assistance. Its enemies are relentless and its areas labyrinthine. Just providing players with area maps is enough to make slowly inching around each corner a little easier to bear.

We've done a whole lot more than that, however. We've extracted every last metaphysical ounce of data we could and tracked every last NPC down no matter how many times they might try and slip away. So when you're up to your knees in lava in Lost Izalith being chased by a giant dinosaur that can kill you with a single touch because your armor is rapidly crumbling away, at least you'll know that the treasure you're trying so desperately to reach is going to be worthwhile. I bought Dark Souls on the day it released right here through Amazon and didn't even know about this guide. I normally buy guides for RPGs such as this and yet I managed to completely miss this guide. Lucikly FuturePress decided to do more runs of the guide (by the time I found out about it, it was already out of stock,) and I got on while it was on sale!

I bought this guide for two reasons.

1. Because as major in Graphic Design, I love the design of strategy guides. To me they are like a piece of art, and this book is the epitome of that. This is a book that you'll want on your coffee table to show off to all of your friends and visitors. It's extremely well designed and is exactly the kind of thing that got me interested in Graphic Design. I love layout, typography, print making etc. and this piece is superb in all of those categories. Beautifully designed with excellent use of the video games content. Couldn't ask for anything more!

2. Because this type of game has tons of content and it's nearly impossible to experience it alone. There are hidden things that many wouldn't even discover were it not for outside sources and what better source then this? Aside from the fact that patches will make some of what is in the book a bit obsolete, it still has a wealth of content to help everyone out and this game is one of those that challenges in many ways. I'm trying to limit my use of the guide on my first playthrough, but for every subsequent playthrough, it will be of great use. The Dark Souls wiki is fantastic and another source I encourage all of you to use, however if you're looking for good information and excellent visual design, this is the place to get it.

Love the book, love the game! Dark Souls Don't miss out on either!

Thanks to Google, I haven't bought a strategy guide in a long time. After seeing this guide, I had to make the purchase. If you've ever purchased a D&D Manual, this guide will be very similar. It's a great hardbound guide with plenty of maps and pictures, all in full color. The best features are the charts for all of the different items, NPCs, monsters, etc.

I'm really impressed with the work that Future Press has done with this guide. It's easily worth $25, in my opinion. It also brings me back to the time before we had Google and strategy guides were the norm. Ever since I've gotten this guide, I've remembered how much fun it is to use a book instead of a Wiki.

The only problems I've seen so far are:
1. A lot of the maps have key points that are placed directly between the pages, making it very difficult to read.
2. The monsters and maps for each area are in two completely different sections. The guide is designed for a user to follow the maps, but there are no reference pages for the items, monsters, NPCs etc, even though they are listed in the table of contents. This causes lots of unnecessary skipping back to the table of contents.

My bro bought this guide a while back and told me it was the greatest so I went and got it myself. Well it turns out it has amazing presentation. It's hard cover, has lots of pictures, lots of information. I think this guide does have a problem though. Most of the information is segregated, the book will suggest going to an area and provide some small details on overcoming the obstacles but if you want the secrets you will need to go to the secrets section of the book, or if you want the monster guide you have to go to another section. Unfortunately I think this is a necessity over a design flaw. The game is difficult so there is a guide to tackling every single one which really is necessary and why you'd get a strategy guide. Lastly and this is the most worst part, the game is receiving an update rendering all of this not accurate(already has received the update for PC). This update changes the stats of some items and makes things a little different, adds a new area(Oolacile township) which won't be covered in this guide. Even so the guide proves to be very helpful and I enjoy it for the artwork alone and $10-15 to save myself hours of surfing the web getting answers is very worth it. I also enjoy having this tome sitting on my shelf.

Well, after finally getting my hands on the Dark Souls guide after waiting over a month after order, I can honestly say it is worth the hype. The book is extremely high quality, especialy for the price of £12.69 (Lol!! to all those who were impatient and spent hundreds on it!!). The guide is an essential companion to the game and the quality is certainly a credit to Future Press. Every area is covered in immaculate detail and truly aids in fleshing out the overall experience of the game. The enjoyment has been marred by poor service from both Future Press and Amazon. Future Press woefully underestimated demand for this book and gave little information as to availability. Amazon were much much worse. After enquiring as to the status of the book and my order, I was given generic answers in the guise of personal replies, which were infact false information. I was told that the book was not available due to "lack of demand". We know that the exact opposite is true and that unexpected high demand led to a re-print. So 5 stars for the book, 1 star for service. My opinion of Amazon has dropped greatly after this experience.

Mittlerweile stimmen einige Dinge nicht mehr, weil sie durch die Patches verändert wurden. Auch ist das Inhaltsverzeichnis leider quasi nicht existent, was vor allem am Anfang die Suche nur unnötig erschwert.

This game s stupid tough and while this book is loaded with information, maps, tips and hints, it does not spoil or walk you through the game. It is a perfect companion guide. The book is also very slick and beautiful, with tons of art and loads of charts. As a matter of fact, right now I like this book much better than this frustrating and much too hard freaking game. With this book you will die a lot less, but you will still die a lot. This is by far the best and most complete game guide I have ever seen.
