This "book" is a compilation of various articles previously published in several websites & magazines--there were NO NEW essays written for this publication. Furthermore, the first three essays--in Part 1, were excellent and had stayed true to the book's subject; the remaining essays (with the minor exception of the last few) had absolutely NOTHING to do with the theme of the book.
One essay was about a young, privileged, white boy who committed suicide, another one about an old overly-intellectual professor succumbing to ALS, another essay was reviewing excerpts from various online sex diaries of slightly mental New Yorkers, and another one was about male pickup (peacock) artists. They had no common theme around them, and they definitely had nothing to do with the title of the book.
I bought this volume ("The Souls of Yellow Folk") to read up primarily on the issues faced by Asian-American people in the U.S. and while I did find a few interesting and thought-provoking paragraphs, they could not make up for the remaining off-the-subject, sleep-inducing chatter (which was 85% of the book.)
